DENIZ JULIA GÜNGÖR RECOMMENDS: OSMANS TÖCHTER

DENIZ JULIA GÜNGÖR RECOMMENDS: OSMANS TÖCHTER

One could call Arzu Bulut and Lale Yanik the Sultan queens, but actually their restaurant’s name “Osmans Töchter” (Osman’s daughters) suit them best. Delicious Turkish home cooking with a touch of exquisite Mediterranean cuisine that is down-to-earth yet experimental – created by both “Turkish mamas” and international chefs – is what the owners truly appreciate. You’ll find the same theme reflected on their interior as well: comfy Mediterran-style and few oriental kitsch. Only poetic oriental elements are added discreetly into their menu which reads like pure poetry. The starters are delightful, like juicy zucchini crème with walnuts and tender lamb skewers in a homemade marinade and smoked eggplant puree. It’s hard to stop raving about them. My favorite is the prawns in “angel hair” served with seasonal baby chard or purslane salad. Try a glass of “Terraa Öküzgözü, Kayra” (2009) with hints of blackberry and a touch of cinnamon along with it – absolutely divine. Enjoy your meal — Afiyet olsun!
