EASIP — ALCOHOL-FREE BOTANICAL DISTILLATES MADE IN BERLIN FOR FINE COCKTAILS

EASIP — ALCOHOL-FREE BOTANICAL DISTILLATES MADE IN BERLIN FOR FINE COCKTAILS

In many circles it is becoming more and more common to drink little or no alcohol – something we gladly welcome. But alcohol-free alternatives are often too sweet or carbonated, missing the sharp, refreshing taste of spirits. The alcohol-free distillates from Easip Drinks are a new option made from natural essences without any artificial flavors or added sugar. The team behind the Berlin-based brand – Milan Eßer, Alexander Meister and Nicolas van de Sandt – are all passionate about zero percent drinks, and have carefully developed their two varieties, Woods and Fields, which have all the complex notes you get with spirits. Woods reminds you of a grounding walk in the forest, with earthy-sweet notes of beetroot and roasted malt combined with cinnamon and oak – perfect for autumn and winter. Fields meanwhile is the ideal companion for spring and summer, combining thyme, ginger, coriander and cucumber for a herbal, spicy, fresh flavor ideal for a Fields Tonic. Whichever you pick, expect an aromatic journey perfect for your next cozy evening at home.

HEIPL: CURATED DESIGNS FOR FORM AND FUNCTION AT HOME AND BEYOND

HEIPL: CURATED DESIGNS FOR FORM AND FUNCTION AT HOME AND BEYOND

It’s true, I have a weakness for small owner-managed shops – especially when the owners are as warm and open-minded as Sabine, who runs the Heipl concept store on Schlesische Strasse. Her life’s work is to search out all kinds of products that help you in your everyday life and make everything a bit brighter and more beautiful. The range of designs in the shop is endless, with delightfully-made pieces for your desk, your kitchen, the children’s playroom and for your next outdoor adventure. The styles range from lively and colourful to elegant and plain. My personal recommendations? Smart notebooks by Korean Stationary Brand wheniwasyoungDonna Wilson’s playful tableware and textiles (a black and white fox-shaped blanket!), timeless jewellery by Ting and functional Hasami porcelain. Why not come in one afternoon, have Sabine make you a cappuccino (with beans from Bonanza Coffee) and have a leisurely browse through the myriad colors, shapes and textures. You’ll really find everything you need here, and everything you didn’t know you needed before. (Text: Lisa Strube / Photos: Heipl)

LOPPIS VINTAGE: THE WESERSTRASSE HOTSPOT FOR SECOND-HAND GARMENTS

LOPPIS VINTAGE: THE WESERSTRASSE HOTSPOT FOR SECOND-HAND GARMENTS

Ever since I discovered Loppis Vintage, I can’t help but come back again and again. After all, I can find everything that makes me happy here: flowing shapes, harmonious colors, understated yet bold patterns, a warm, airy atmosphere and the balanced mix of pieces on the rack. With her clothing store, founder Agnes Zelei manages to present a thoughtful mix of clothing for men and women, bringing beauty to this corner of Neukölln. Her curated pieces – including shirts and bottoms, dresses and outerwear – are simple and delicate, casual yet elegant – and so wonderfully timeless. When I enter Loppis, I feel as if time is standing still – shopping can be an overwhelming experience, but not here. Agnes travels regularly back to her roots in Hungary to find new vintage pieces for her store, something she really has a knack for. If you’re in the mood for “new” shapes and colors in your wardrobe, head to Loppis where Agnes is looking forward to welcoming you. (Text: Lisa Strube / Photos: Savannah van der Niet, Chloe Orefice)

O-SLOW: JAPANESE AND LEBANESE CUISINES COMBINE FOR A TRULY MULTICULTURAL MENU

O-SLOW: JAPANESE AND LEBANESE CUISINES COMBINE FOR A TRULY MULTICULTURAL MENU

I’m such a fan of O-slow that I first wanted to keep it all to myself as my ultimate insider restaurant tip. Opened by Mami, Wahid and Wissam in 2018, O-slow is a place full of character and quirky details, where Japanese and Lebanese cuisine are brought together with complete mastery. The best and most special thing about this place is you don’t have have to make endless choices: there is a single, daily menu to choose from. The vegetarian (and vegan-friendly) food reveals a culinary dialogue between the Far East and the Middle East, all conceived and prepared by chef Mami with love. On our visit, we had a coriander–potato salad, brown rice with marinated tofu and edamame, tomato-wakame-miso soup, homemade lemonade and hōjicha (roasted green tea), and some fluffy sfouf (lebanese semolina cake) to finish with. Spending the evening at O-slow with your favorite people, you’re guaranteed to leave relaxed, content and with an unmistakable smile on your face. (Text: Lisa Strube / Photos: Savannah van der Niet)
