VERSATILE SPACES FOR BUSINESSES BOTH BIG AND SMALL — FLEX OFFICES FROM MINDSPACE

VERSATILE SPACES FOR BUSINESSES BOTH BIG AND SMALL — FLEX OFFICES FROM MINDSPACE

Hybrid, informal and flexible: that’s where the world of work is heading – or at least where many of us want it to head. To realize this dream, one thing we’re going to need is new kinds of workspaces, and if you’re a business owner, this means swapping (or supplementing) your old-fashioned office for something more versatile and future-ready. This is where providers like Mindspace come in. Founded in 2014, the office-rental company provides space to businesses both small and large in seven locations across Berlin, from Ku’damm to Skalitzer Strasse. The offices are fully flexible, both in terms of layout (you can rent a small private office or take over an entire floor) and contract (term lengths start at one month).

As for design, the idea is that each location has its own character. The building in Krausenstrasse, for instance, is a historic landmark, overlooking an attractive brick-bordered atrium and is intended for larger companies. The Ku’damm location, on the other hand, has a large event-appropriate rooftop with views over the city, and the offices in Skalitzer Straße mirror the typical creative Kreuzberg vibe. All locations offer hotel-like features (gyms, coffee bars, showers, roof terraces) and services (reception, parking, community activities), plus fun, informal interiors with lobbies designed as hangout zones to meet in, not just spaces to rush through. And when the work day is over, the team can wind down with workouts, seasonal parties, lectures, and tastings. If it is this easy to have a full-service office experience, we’ll be coming in every day…

CRAVERS — VEGAN SNACKS AND SPREADS MADE WITH FAIRLY-SOURCED HAZELNUTS FROM ANATOLIA

CRAVERS — VEGAN SNACKS AND SPREADS MADE WITH FAIRLY-SOURCED HAZELNUTS FROM ANATOLIA

There is a strong tradition of hazelnut cultivation in northern Anatolia, Turkey. It’s a place that has grown them for more than two thousand years, focusing on the most delicious variety, “tombul”. You can taste the results of this heritage closer to home thanks to Cravers, a Berlin brand that turns hazelnuts into handy snacks and spreads. Founded by nut fans Ozan Akkoyun, Yağmur Ruzgar, Arda Aşkın and Ersoy Kiraz in 2021, the company sources its hazelnuts from a women-run farming collective in Anatolia. The range includes a delicate, crunchy hazelnut butter – ideal for morning cereal or devoured as a post-dinner treat. Then there’s my personal favorite: the cacao spread, which adds chocolate to the mix (though it’s still 80 percent hazelnut), giving it just the right balance of bitter and sweet flavors. I add it to my overnight oats for an oh-so-simple breakfast. For on-the-go snacks, there’s the energy balls, which come in coconut, cocoa and crunchy varieties. Whichever you go for, these fairly produced treats are tasty, filling and guilt-free.

CONSIDERED DRINKING CULTURE WITH THE MINDFUL DRINKING CLUB IN PRENZLAUER BERG

CONSIDERED DRINKING CULTURE WITH THE MINDFUL DRINKING CLUB IN PRENZLAUER BERG

What looks like a classic wine shop from the outside is actually just the opposite: The Mindful Drinking Club in Prenzlauer Berg offers a curated selection of alcohol-free alternatives for every taste and a more conscious drinking culture. Here you’ll find single-origin juices from the Uckermark region, verjus, fruit sparkling wines, wine proxies, various types of kombucha, non-alcoholic sparkling wines, beers and much more. Whether you’re looking for a gift for a pregnant girlfriend, the perfect pairing for the first dinner party of the New Year, or simply want to know why shrub (drinking vinegar) tastes so pure, Jennifer Kiessling, who has been involved in the development of non-alcoholic alternatives and pairings for several years, and her co-founder Max Lielje offer private tastings in their store, showroom and workshop space. For those who prefer to taste their way through the range at home, there are alcohol-free tasting packages such as the “Null Komma Null Prozent” or the “Prosit in Pink” with sparkling Sparkling Rosé, a Hamburger Pomquette and the Yamilé, an exceptional rosé from Muri. Whether you never drink alcohol, drink very little, or are just curious, a visit to this great concept store is definitely worth it.

A GOOD PLAN & EIN GUTER PLAN: START WITH MORE MINDFULNESS INTO THE NEW YEAR

A GOOD PLAN & EIN GUTER PLAN: START WITH MORE MINDFULNESS INTO THE NEW YEAR

If you’re looking for a constructive and stress-free alternative to the annual “good resolutions” this year, you might find the perfect match in this calendar. The Berlin publishing house ‘Ein guter Verlag’ has created A Good Plan, a holistic calendar for more mindfulness and self-love, free of kitsch, clichés and self-optimization. But that’s not all – like the German original, the new English edition is produced vegan and climate-neutral in a family-run business in Germany. It is printed exclusively on 100 percent recycled paper and no plastic packaging is used. This clever little calendar, available in the English version as an undated planner so you can get started at any time, lets us ask the really important questions: What am I looking forward to, what will be a challenge, and what new habits do I want to form? Am I taking enough time to relax and have I tried something new this month? With monthly reflections, a mindfulness traffic light, and other tools, A Good Plan helps me develop more awareness of my essential needs and pursue them. These include values like self-determination and a need for more balance in my life. Each year, the publisher coins a new, encouraging motto. And so the “Zweitausendfreiundzwanzig®” (“Two Thousand and Twenty Free”) theme for 2023 feels just right. It’s time to free ourselves from limited beliefs, old pain and doubts that hold us back and step into the New Year with more confidence and openness. Sounds like a good plan, right? We think so, too.

DREAMS, TRAGEDY, PIGEON POO — AN AUDIOVISUAL EXPLORATION AROUND KOTTBUSSER TOR

DREAMS, TRAGEDY, PIGEON POO — AN AUDIOVISUAL EXPLORATION AROUND KOTTBUSSER TOR

There are many questions those living in Berlin may have about Kotti. Musician Cecilia Tosh is also asking questions. One of these is: What does the Kotti sound like? What began with field recordings and interviews, she later developed, with eight other musicians, into an album. A further collaboration with 21 visual artists saw this album grow into a site-specific exhibition at and about the Kottbusser Tor. Who actually lives here? What is it like to work here? What do the people of Charlottenburg think about the place? And the tourists? How is Kotti interpreted cinematically, in literature and music? Can social urban development take place here? And what exactly is that supposed to be? The audiovisual exploration tour of this non-place between transit and home, utopia and limbo, can be experienced in January (06-29.01.2023), and goes by the name “Kotti Island“. The artistic works can be found at nine different locations. For example, a performance by residents under the direction of choreographer Katharina Scheidtmann will take place in the aquarium, a space hosted by Südblock, or you can sample your very own Kottitrack of field recordings in the Paloma Bar. How does Kotti feel? This place of transition, this ecosystem, this slowly pulsating, all devouring animal… How does Kotti think? How does it live, move, breathe? And how do we experience it? Many questions are answered here, many are raised. When I think of Kotti, the first thing that comes to mind is the smell: warm strawberries and urine. Just so very Berlin. Even in winter.
