ON YOUR MARKS, GET SET, GO! GET READY FOR THE WEEKEND WITH KRAFT RUNNERS AND LULULEMON

ON YOUR MARKS, GET SET, GO! GET READY FOR THE WEEKEND WITH KRAFT RUNNERS AND LULULEMON

Fancy a weekend full of adrenaline, exercise and community? Then get your running shoes out and mark the weekend in your diary for the Kraft Runners and lululemonevent. The event starts on Friday (05.04.2024) with drinks and relaxed beats to get you in the groove at Kraftraum. The actual kick-off follows on Saturday: Pregame! The community get-together starts with a 5k shake-out run and a mobility session to get the muscles going. And as if that wasn’t enough, the unveiling of the Kraft x lululemon race tank and a limited Kraft x Pari streetwear drop will follow — for all the fashion and fitness enthusiasts among us. The highlight is Sunday (07.04.) with Race Day, but before you jump right into it, an aerobics session with Leona Rieck will boost your energy and get you into running mode. Then it’s time to run, cheer and celebrate — Berlin will become a scene of sporting excellence and euphoria! Part of the route will be transformed into a dance floor for the subsequent “Active Dance Recovery”. On Monday (08.04.), we will review the weekend over coffee and freshly made sandwiches and maybe even make new plans — breakfast is on the house if you come along in your running outfit! In short: you can expect days full of sporting challenges, inspiring encounters and unforgettable moments. Even if you’re not running on the track, cheering will be just as much fun.

FACING THE SUN: NANCY HOLT AT GROPIUS BAU

FACING THE SUN: NANCY HOLT AT GROPIUS BAU

Her sculptures were not just meant to be looked at. Nancy Holt intended for them to transform the way people see their environment and themselves. In 1973, she installed one of her best-known works in the Utah desert: The “Sun Tunnels”, four concrete tubes three meters in diameter, frame the sunrise and sunset. At night, constellations glimmer through holes in the building material giving the illusion that they are within arm’s reach. Holt found a way to depict the movement of the celestial bodies that is both minimalist and poetic — without being kitschy. Although the sun tunnels in the Gropius Bau can only be experienced as studies, the museum impressively demonstrates how the land art pioneer used her art as a visual amplifier. The museum traces Holt’s career, spanning five decades, from her beginnings in concrete poetry to experimental films and installations that transcend spatial boundaries. Holt, who had studied biology and worked as an editor, had a deep understanding of how to combine text, image and nature. She often worked with scientists, architects and astronomers. Light is a visual medium that runs through much of her work. This is the case with Holt’s “Electrical System” from 1982, which fills the entire inner courtyard of the museum. Using light bulbs and curved metal pipes, Holt created a meadow of light for visitors to stroll through. What connects her work is the relationship between man, nature and the cosmos. Despite their enormous scale, her work blends into their surroundings and landscape. Holt illuminates what holds the world together. Today, ten years after her death, her land art explorations can be viewed as memorials against climate change: objects that can be used to align ourselves with the world and seek our place in it.

SPACE FOR SOMETHING NEW: ON X VOOSTORE POP-UP PRESENTS UPCYCLED ACTIVEWEAR IN COLLABORATION WITH UDK-ALUMNI

SPACE FOR SOMETHING NEW: ON X VOOSTORE POP-UP PRESENTS UPCYCLED ACTIVEWEAR IN COLLABORATION WITH UDK-ALUMNI

May makes everything new… except that it’s only April. But, as always, the Swiss performance brand On is one step ahead. Their latest project: a collaboration with VooStore and four alumni of the fashion design program at the Berlin University of the Arts. The result: their very own interpretation of fashionable performance wear. The innovative upcycling project, which UdK graduates Laurin Stecher, Denise Kipke, Sezgin Kivrim and Essie Kramer have been working on with the On and VooStore teams over the past few weeks, comprises a capsule collection of footwear and apparel, to be presented as part of the exhibition at VooSpace from 04.–09.04.2024. Instead of short-lived trends, the collection adopts circular fashion principles by transforming archive pieces and older collections into new unique pieces. The upcycled looks are limited edition and can only be purchased at the exhibition or online. The proceeds will go to On’s Right To Run partner “Champions Without Borders“. With the Berlin half marathon this weekend, there will of course also be running sessions. The 5km runs start at 19.30 on Thursday evening and 10.30 on Saturday morning, where a balanced breakfast awaits you afterwards. You can keep an eye out on Instagram for the last spots. If you prefer to get creative, you can look forward to a cool DIY activity during a visit to the exhibition where you’ll create a marathon-themed bandana for free (an activity which will also require nimble feet, as only the first 100 guests will get the chance). Don’t miss out on scoring a bandana as a new fashion accessory or motivation for the next run!

SWITI — THE NEW DELIVERY CONCEPT FOR FRESH SURINAMESE CUISINE EVERY SUNDAY

SWITI — THE NEW DELIVERY CONCEPT FOR FRESH SURINAMESE CUISINE EVERY SUNDAY

When Ferinho Jubitane relocated from Amsterdam to Berlin in October 2021, he, like many, was enchanted by the culinary diversity of the city. However, there were certain dishes, ones that held a special place in his heart, not readily available. They were the dishes he grew up with. This sparked a longing to not only enjoy Surinamese cuisine himself but to introduce it to Berliners. Surinamese cuisine is uniquely diverse, blending Indigenous, Indian, Creole, Javanese, Chinese and European influences, each dish is infused with history. In the summer of 2022, Ferinho began conceptualizing Switi, and has officially launched today (delivery and pickup from 07.04.2024). Every Sunday, he and his team prepare a 3-course menu available for delivery from 6 pm to 9 pm or pickup from his kitchen in Friedrichshain. Orders can be placed up to four weeks in advance through the website. The menu begins with a Saoto soup — a light chicken broth infused with lemongrass and served with toppings such as boiled egg, tender chicken, and a fried mixture of potatoes, onions and rice noodles.

The main course, Roti Royal Fusion, features Surinamese roti made from spicy, ground split peas layered with dough and accompanied by a choice of chicken, lamb, prawns, tofu, jackfruit or chickpeas. The dish is served with a generous portion of vegetables, potatoes and egg. The meal is rounded out with Bojo cheesecake topped with passion fruit sauce. Bojo is no ordinary cheesecake, it combines grated cassava, coconut milk, cinnamon and vanilla to create a creamy texture like no other. The homemade passion fruit sauce allows diners to adjust the sweetness to their preference. In Suriname, ‘switi’ describes something delicious and enjoyable — a taste that is sweet or simply divine, and the Switi delivery concept perfectly embodies this sentiment.

FROM HOME OFFICE TO STUDIO-STYLE LIVING: FURNITURE & MORE FROM MODULOR

FROM HOME OFFICE TO STUDIO-STYLE LIVING: FURNITURE & MORE FROM MODULOR

We know and love Modulor for the best selection of envelopes, flat-bottom bags, simple storage boxes, the lovingly curated selection of washi tape, and materials you didn’t even know existed. When we were looking for the perfect table for our small meeting room, we received excellent advice from the Modulor team and opted for an oval version with an individual frame — because Modulor allows for special shapes and mix and match as required. It was also important for us to have a table with an extra-large cable outlet so bulky chargers for laptops could disappear from view completely. The tabletop is linoleum, and the hidden height-adjustment lever is an add-on that quickly turns a traditional meeting into an agile stand-up. For our second table, we chose a matte surface in light pink with a matching frame. In this color, the same table adopts a different character and becomes the focal point in the room. Whether you need a simple, functional table or an eye-catcher — you do you. But one thing is certain, you’ll receive the best advice on furniture (and all design matters). At Modulor, over 200 people share their expertise in the field and a passion for materials and furniture. From planning to installation, the Modulor team also furnishes entire offices and provides additional support in matters of shelving installation and acoustics: for example, we opted for simple acoustic boards, insulated with real wool. They lean against the wall like thick stretcher frames — rather than discreet beige coverings, you can use them to create color accents. If you’re now inspired to give your rooms a new look or want to switch from “standard” to “custom-made”, then you’re in the right place on the first floor of Modulor.
