KINDERKIEZ: TURN YOUR OWN NEIGHBORHOOD INTO A PLAYMAT

KINDERKIEZ: TURN YOUR OWN NEIGHBORHOOD INTO A PLAYMAT

Just ask a room full of adults if they remember those playmats where you drive toy cars on as kids, and watch eyes light up. It seems to be a universally loved pastime: driving toy trucks, building Lego cities and letting your imagination run wild. But what if you could explore your actual neighborhood right on the mat? Kinderkiez, developed by Berlin dad Felix Stock, is the startup allowing you to create a playmat featuring your very own Kiez. In addition to the novelty, it also means kids can learn as they play, discovering the way to the Kita, Grandma’s place and the playground. Using geo-spatial technology and beautiful illustrations, you can put in any address in the world and generate a playmat of the local area. Next, you can customize the design any way you like, from pirate ships in the pond or a flag on important locations, to a street sweeper your little one insists should be on the corner. Here’s to the next generation of happy playmat memories. (Text: Emily Miotke / Photos: Kinderkiez)

Get your made-to-order playmat at the Kinderkiez online shop.
Deadline for Christmas orders is 16.12.2019.

PUSHING THEATRICAL BOUNDARIES — A CELEBRATION OF RIMINI PROTOKOLL AT HAU

PUSHING THEATRICAL BOUNDARIES — A CELEBRATION OF RIMINI PROTOKOLL AT HAU

For 20 years Rimini Protokoll – a proliferous collective led by Helgard Haug, Stefan Kaegi and Daniel Wetzel – has been shaking up the local theater scene, systematically breaking with conventions. Their stage-works, interventions, performative installations and audio plays focus on the themes of social order and world politics, actively involving the viewer such as in “Situation Rooms“, where the audience becomes an integral part of interactive video sequences. On their 20th anniversary, a number of Berlin venues will dedicate themselves to the work of the trio – HAU will be the first, running shows from December to mid-January 2020. Included is Rimini classic “100% Berlin Reloaded“, shown in over 40 cities across the globe and featuring 100 statistically-selected Berliners from all walks of life. The piece represents the city in all its complexity and heterogeneity and offers an exciting update after 12 years. The series “Jetzt feiern – 20 Years of Rimini Protokoll” is the perfect piece for the darkest season of the year and we’re giving away a pair of tickets for the Reloaded performance on 10.01.2020. Just write us an email at win@ceecee.cc! (Text: Hanna Komornitzyk / Photos: Jürgen Fehrmann, Jo Exelmans & Dirk Pauweis)

LAMM — COCKTAILKUNST IN INDUSTRIELLEM AMBIENTE

LAMM — COCKTAILKUNST IN INDUSTRIELLEM AMBIENTE

Nicely set back from the street on Prenzlauer Berg’s northern border, Lamm is a cocktail bar causing quite a stir amongst the city’s mixologists. Hannes Lautenschlager and Dustin Franke opened this urban oasis in January 2019, transforming deserted rooms into a spacious and sleek concrete-walled interior. Subdued lighting and carefully arranged seating give it intimacy and warmth – perfect for a snug evening sipping drinks. And every sip is a joy: combining barkeeping knowhow and a good bit of imagination, Lamm quietly produces some spectacular cocktails. Also available in small tasting sizes, the drinks are big on fresh fruit and herbs, with the likes of peach, mango, lavender and rosemary bringing zest and punch. The walnut-topped “Waldorfsalat” is definitely worth a full glass, blending vodka, celery, apple and milk for a delightfully mellow taste. No wonder Berlin’s cocktail scenesters are flocking here. WELLENWERK: RIDE THE WAVES IN LICHTENBERG’S SURF PARADISE

WELLENWERK: RIDE THE WAVES IN LICHTENBERG’S SURF PARADISE

Are you dreaming of riding the waves on a surfboard? Well the good news is you won’t have to board a plane to Portugal or Bali to go surfing; you just need to hop on the tram to Wellenwerk in Lichtenberg. This urban surf paradise came about after seven friends decided bring the sport to their own city after coming back from a surf trip, creating their own surfing paradise at a former waterworks. This unique space features a stationary wave that can be used by complete beginners as well as professional surfers training for competitions. Up to ten pumps blast water onto an adjustable underwater ramp, generating waves of up to 1.60m. Cleverly, the warmth created heats the place, so the water itself doesn’t need heating, to the betterment of the environment. There’s another sweetener too: in 2020, Wellenwerk will be expanded with a cafe and shop. Time to take to your board and work up an appetite!
