BONVIVANT: THE BAR AND RESTAURANT SERVING A SYMPHONY OF COLOR

BONVIVANT: THE BAR AND RESTAURANT SERVING A SYMPHONY OF COLOR

A beautiful, eye-catching building in Schöneberg is the home of the new cocktail bistro Bonvivant. Inside the pastel-colored furniture and soft lighting exude quality and attention to detail – the perfect setting for an unforgettable dining experience. To start, try an aperitif mixed by award-winning Yvonne Rahm and served with a dash of aromatic bitters to intensify your sensory experience. The weekly-rotating dishes from top organic chef Ottmar Pohl-Hoffbauer are seasonal, local and all vegetarian. We tried everything: from a ravioli with blue banana and zappho pumpkins and king oyster mushrooms to the gnocchi with chanterelles, broccoli, almonds and lemon. But there is more to Bonvivant: the back room acts as a séparée with a round, revolving table perfect for special occasions. Head further in through the dark curtains past the freezers and you come across a hidden gallery in the basement. No matter how much you feel like a regular here, there’s always more to discover. TROEDELMARKT ARKONAPLATZ: THE OUTDOOR CONCEPT STORE — RECOMMENDED BY ANNIKA ROGGE

TROEDELMARKT ARKONAPLATZ: THE OUTDOOR CONCEPT STORE — RECOMMENDED BY ANNIKA ROGGE

The second-hand market at Arkonaplatz is neither an over-crowded, piled up flea market nor an overrated Kreuzberg cliché. On the contrary, it has grown in recent years into an increasingly superior treasure-trove for all kinds of vintage designs, be it interior, fashion or crafts. I have my grandmother to thank for my love of flea markets. When I was a child, she brought me along to numerous markets and taught me the three golden rules: Always go in the mornings, keep expanding your design expertise so you can find the pearls, and always keep in touch with the sellers to discover their sources. The market at Arkonaplatz is perfect for a relaxing Sunday walk. Before my visit I buy a cup of coffee and a croissant at Hermann Eicke on Brunnenstraße, before walking the three minutes to the flea market. Most of my furniture comes from Arkona and has gradually replaced all of my Ikea furniture. I often stream my visits to show my Instagram followers my “hand-picked” finds. And most of the time I just have to bring the goods home. (Text: Annika Rogge / Photos: Johanna Rademacher-Flesland)

Annika Rogge is a social media manager with a great love for interior design. She shares her Arkona finds here. Her best score? A white Bertoia Side Chair.

GOOD TO TALK: EXPLORING THE FUTURE OF ART AND LEARNING WITH PERFORMANCES AND PANELS

GOOD TO TALK: EXPLORING THE FUTURE OF ART AND LEARNING WITH PERFORMANCES AND PANELS

To discuss art beyond established institutions is not as easy as one might think, as the spaces aren’t there. That’s precisely why we need to talk: specifically this Saturday (28.09.2019) at Kantine am Berghain at the second edition of Good to Talk. Founded in 2017 by a small circle of Berlin gallerists, this interdisciplinary discussion format seeks to stimulate a new exchange of ideas, including how art interacts with business, fashion and digitization. This year, the central question revolves around the future of art education and the role art plays today and its impact on other fields. The answers are provided not only by Berlin art and culture players – including Berlin Art Week and Eigen + Art Lab – but also those in business, media and tech industries. The day includes panels on topics such as AI and startup culture as well as performances and artistic interventions. And as if that wasn’t reason enough to go and have your say: as a brand new Good to Talk media partner, Cee Cee is giving away free tickets. GOING THE DISTANCE: CULTURE, RUNNING AND THE BERLIN MARATHON

GOING THE DISTANCE: CULTURE, RUNNING AND THE BERLIN MARATHON

The hype around the Berlin Marathon is undeniably huge — and rightfully so. This Sunday thousands of runners will be taking over Berlin on the 40km jaunt through the streets. But whether you’re running or cheering, everyone can join in on the festivities. We recommend diving into the culture of running by stopping into the Beinghunted gallery space for an exhibition and presentation from French brand Distance Athletics. The pop-up, from 27–29.09, centers on the newly launched Distance Book Series, where for the first edition the photographer Thibaut Grevet traveled into the highlands of Kenya to photograph the legendary village of Iten, named “The Home of Champions”. Extra tip: If you still need to gear up for the run, head over to Spreeläuferin Prenzlauer berg. This Berlin concept store is run by marathoners themselves, so you can be sure they have the expertise to fit you with the perfect gear. No matter if you’re an athlete or simply interested in the culture behind it all, this weekend is one not to miss. ITEN, the first volume of the Distance book series with photography from Thibaut Grevet, is available at the Distance shops in Lyon and Paris or online.

LAUSEBENGEL: THE GRAEFEKIEZ GASTROPUB SERVING HEARTY BERLIN FARE

LAUSEBENGEL: THE GRAEFEKIEZ GASTROPUB SERVING HEARTY BERLIN FARE

A restaurant run by a true neighborhood kid: that’s Lausebengel. Janosch Thomsen, one of the owners, was born and raised in the Graefekiez. He converted former Kreuzberg pub “Rizz” along with co-founders Tim Gräsing, Kristof and The Anh Nguyen at the beginning of 2019. They’ve retained a lot of the old furniture and design with new additions like the giant blue painting at the far side of the space. The result is a modern gastropub where Kreuzbergers both new and old feel right at home. The beer selection is exhaustive, without the accompanying craft brew hype. The food pays homage to Berlin while incorporating Arabic elements in dishes like the hummus, aubergine and red cabbage “Stulle” sandwich, and the “Kassler” pork served in a kebab. The classics remain, with fish (or celery) sticks and smaller “Berliner Happen” bites like mustard egg with potato and blood sausage croquettes with smoked apple sauce. What a modern and imaginative way to celebrate Graefekiez pride. (Text: Katie Burton / Photos: Johanna Rademacher-Flesland)
