CONCIERGE COFFEE #2: A CAFFEINE KICK FROM A SHIPPING CONTAINER

CONCIERGE COFFEE #2: A CAFFEINE KICK FROM A SHIPPING CONTAINER

In July 2019 Concierge Coffee expanded, and now serves the finest coffee and pastries from a shipping container docked in an inconspicuous backyard on Köpenicker Strasse in addition to their the charming cafe on Paul-Lincke-Ufer. The container cafe was created in cooperation with building owners Vonder, and one thing is certain: this wood-lined container is at least as special and unique as the first location, and has proved a truly successful expansion. Of course, it serves what Concierge Coffee is all about: excellent filter coffee, americanos, cold brew and flat whites. And as usual, their croissants always pair nicely with your coffee, no matter the time of day. So if you are anywhere near Schlesi, Kotti or Jannowitzbrücke, take a little break away from the hustle and bustle at this new location. When it starts to get cold: try their warming and invigorating Concierge Dirty Chai Latte. (Text: Lisa Strube / Photos: Johanna Rademacher-Flesland)

SEKTGAR — THE PERFECT BAR CONCEPT FOR YOUR NEXT PARTY

SEKTGAR — THE PERFECT BAR CONCEPT FOR YOUR NEXT PARTY

Still looking for ideas for your next company event? Want to actually celebrate your birthday instead of always playing host? Here’s an idea: let Sektgar bring the bar to you. Since 2014, Edgar and his team have been providing the bar for events, serving primarily sparkling wine alongside other creative drink concepts. At the last Cee Cee Dinner, we were treated to the full range of Edgar’s creations, including the “Barbara Rhubarbara”, “Grandma’s Secret” and “Skinny Beach”. But you don’t have to wait for a special occasion: an “Aperitivo Friday” in the office is reason enough to call Sektgar round to transform your workplace into a lively bar. And if you want to go all out, he can arrange entire events (river boat tour with Sekt and finger food anyone?) Edgar’s “Sekt Talks” podcast gives you a taste of his world, and features stars from Berlin’s cultural and gastronomic scene like “Fischmann Micha” from Glut & Späne. Ready for a party? We are. MUTING THE NOISE — RECOMMENDED BY HEIKO HOFFMANN

MUTING THE NOISE — RECOMMENDED BY HEIKO HOFFMANN

Without question, Berlin is one of the largest hubs of the international electronic music scene. As well as the many clubs and DJs that call Berlin home, there are countless indie labels here whose tracks get heard around the world. One of the most influential record labels in the past decade and a half has been Innervisions, run by Dixon and Âme (their Ambient compilation, which features tracks by Klaus Schulze, Terre Thaemlitz and Mark Pritchard, is still among my favorite records of all time.) Every Thursday, their shop Muting the Noise opens its backyard doors in Kreuzberg, and you can come in and find vinyl records from about 30 house and techno labels, as well as t-shirts, headphones from Japanese manufacturer Phonon, prints, and books like Tobias Rapp’s “Lost and Sound”. Co-owner Kristian Beyer (DJ moniker: Âme) offers record selections from the crates that he uses in his own sets. (Text: Heiko Hoffmann / Photos: Tobias Basel)

Heiko Hoffmann is the curator of No Photos on the Dance Floor! Berlin 1989 – Today, which is on exhibit at C/O Berlin until 30.11.2019.

DAHEIM MANUFAKTUR — A KITCHEN FOR WORKSHOPS, EVENTS AND FOODIES

DAHEIM MANUFAKTUR — A KITCHEN FOR WORKSHOPS, EVENTS AND FOODIES

Have you ever had a Taiwanese breakfast? For those who are curious and up for culinary expeditions, I would highly recommend Daheim Manufaktur, the eco-friendly cuisine and event space where you really feel at home. Founder Julia Hammond, who used to work in design and product development, discovered that there are hardly any small, affordable production facilities for food startups in Berlin. So in 2016 she opened her own kitchen which smaller food manufacturers and caterers can rent out and where international chefs can share their dishes and family recipes through classes and workshops. I recently found myself in the Daheim Manufaktur kitchen myself and learned how to prepare Taiwanese Scallion Pancakes with RitaKahn Chen from Rice Studio Berlin. Kneading, folding and rolling the dough proved a challenge, but the result was worth it: a hearty, incredibly delicious spring onion pancake, reminiscent of puff pastry. It was immediately devoured in the sun alongside other Taiwanese treats. (Text: Katie Burton / Photos: Johanna Rademacher-Flesland)

The next Taiwanese Breakfast Workshop will take place on 20.10.2019. You can find more workshops and events on Facebook. The space can also be rented for events of up to 14 people.

CONNECTING AFRO FUTURES. FASHION X HAIR X DESIGN AT THE KUNSTGEWERBEMUSEUM

CONNECTING AFRO FUTURES. FASHION X HAIR X DESIGN AT THE KUNSTGEWERBEMUSEUM

The new exhibition at the Kunstgewerbemuseum, “Connecting Afro Futures. Fashion x Hair x Design”, is an homage to the rich diversity of African art. The artists, mainly from fashion capitals Dakar (Senegal, West Africa) and Kampala (Uganda, East Africa), reinterpret old traditions in order to portray them more vividly to the viewer. At the core of the exhibition is a focus on fashion, design and –– above all –– hair. The emotional significance placed on Afro hair is successfully explained and illustrated, and the liberation from Western ideals of beauty is celebrated. Afro hair is incorporated in almost every garment, film and design, and many of the designers also employ recycled materials, such as tree bark, to produce the cloths sustainably. As a person of color, it is an especially great pleasure to see my own culture represented in art. The theme of the exhibition is for everyone, though: if you are curious about this important topic and want to see more, the doors of the exhibition are open until December 2019 (Text: Louisa Sodji / Photos: Aldi Diasse, Mario Epanya & Achim Kleuker)
