LA LA SPORTS — INSPIRING ALL TYPES OF ATHLETES

LA LA SPORTS — INSPIRING ALL TYPES OF ATHLETES

Granted, there is a difference between wanting to be physically active and actually finding the motivation to get going. The good news is that your drive can change instantaneously once you’ve found a sport that you like. Creative encouragement awaits online in the form of La La Sports — a website that’s here to inspire you to try something new, and perhaps even out of the ordinary. ’80s-style jam skating (which combines dance and gymnastics), professional trampolining and archery are just a glimpse of what the site offers. The idea stems from an international trio of sports enthusiasts, including a diver and a gifted fencer. Their mission is to increase the popularity and accessibility of leisure activities amongst Berliners. In addition to single sessions and beginners courses, La La Sports’s range includes amateur contests and sports vacations. If you still can’t settle on just one favorite, click the “Surprise Me” button and let the action-packed experience begin. NATURTRIP.ORG: ESCAPE TO THE COUNTRYSIDE, NO CAR REQUIRED

NATURTRIP.ORG: ESCAPE TO THE COUNTRYSIDE, NO CAR REQUIRED

If you’re up for a last-minute getaway over the end-of-year break but are lacking inspiration, a driver’s license or four wheels of your own, let Naturtrip.org introduce you to a few new escape ideas. You don’t need to enter an actual destination into this smart public transportation map, as it turns the search process around, filtering results according to your starting point, the time you want to be on the road and the type of outdoor experience you’re seeking. The tips could be anything from a skate park in Kreuzberg or a short trip to the Spree to a hike through the Döberitzer Heide — all of which are good reasons to finally update your list of places to explore. Wrap up warm, pump up those bike tires or buy your ticket — who says the Christmas break has to be spent indoors? (Text: Jasmin Tomschi / Photos [clockwise]: Naturtrip, TMB-Fotoarchiv/Yvonne Bleeck, Johannes Hulsch)

EUGENIA GÜETO GÓMEZ RECOMMENDS: NORN

EUGENIA GÜETO GÓMEZ RECOMMENDS: NORN

You know the feeling you get after you have a good conversation? When common understanding is reached in a matter of seconds, words flow effortlessly and a certain kind of magic happens. This is what I experienced over the course of an evening at Norn, a space and members club for coming together regularly for intimate salons and conversation dinners (members can also stay on residencies at the apartments in Berlin, London and Barcelona.) Back in September, I joined a dinner titled “On Gender Expression,” led by Jared Weiss from Touchpoint. The gathering was hosted at Norn’s Kreuzberg apartment where we enjoyed a delicious three course meal while discussing how we psychologically embody our own and other genders. I was sharing such intimate and stimulating discussion with strangers and somehow felt like I belonged to a tribe with whom I shared the same sense of curiosity and aspirations in life. Norn’s gatherings allow time to discuss beauty in all its forms and to approach topics that are rarely broached. The secret to its openness is the respectful and trust-filled atmosphere they create. Mental note: Culture does not make people. People make culture. INDULGE YOUR GOURMET WANDERLUST WITH SALT & SILVER

INDULGE YOUR GOURMET WANDERLUST WITH SALT & SILVER

It’s around this time of year when wanderlust starts to set in — dreams of sandy beaches, crashing waves and exotic flavours playing on our minds. For a shot of travel and cooking inspiration without leaving the city, head to Google Pixel Studio this Saturday (10.11.) where amateur chefs and avid travellers-turned-restauranteurs, Salt & Silver (aka Jo and Cozy) will be telling the story of their year-long travels through Latin America, during which they shot documentary films and published surf-inspired cookbooks. Upon their return to Hamburg, they opened a (now two-part) Mexican-Peruvian restaurant to share the flavors and cooking techniques they picked up along the way. Berliners will be lucky enough to get a taste on Saturday, too — after a talk and cookbook presentation, they’ll reveal the secret to making their famous guacamole. Prepare for your mouth to water — and for your feet to itch. (Text: Anna Dorothea Ker / Photos: Google Pixel, Salt & Silver)
