SEE BERLIN THROUGH THE LENS OF EYEEM FOUNDER GEN SADAKANE

SEE BERLIN THROUGH THE LENS OF EYEEM FOUNDER GEN SADAKANE

Calling all hobby photographers (and who isn’t, these days?): What does it take to create a photo that turns heads, stops people in their tracks — or at least triggers an overflow of heart icons? Since 2011, the hugely successful Berlin-based photo platform EyeEm has been exploring and answering this question — generously sharing their expertise on the way. Next Tuesday (6.11.) EyeEm creative director and co-founder, the affable Gen Sadakane, is leading a photo walk through Berlin-Mitte — seeking out interesting motifs and passing on tips for seeing, and capturing, the city in a new light along the way. It’s free and open to all — thanks to Google Pixel Studio, a pop-up space for creativity and connectivity centred on taking incredible photos with the Pixel 3. Hint: with a few tricks from the experts, it’s easier than you think — register hereto join the walk and get the inside scoop on upping your snapshot game. SEE ARTWORKS UNFOLD LIVE AT THE UNDERGROUND POP-UP CANVAS BAR

SEE ARTWORKS UNFOLD LIVE AT THE UNDERGROUND POP-UP CANVAS BAR

The tunnels beneath Potsdamer Platz will serve as more than just a transit point this weekend (18.-21.10.2018), when a disused section of the U3 line will be turned into a space for creative experimentation. Selected artists will create works live in front of visitors’ eyes: taking part are Mary Lennox and her incredible floral creations, lettering extraordinaire Stefan Kunz and calligrapher Sigrid Artmann, illustrator and designer Olaf Hajek, paper artist duo Lacy Barry & Cris Wiegandt, aka Crizilla & Delassey, and painter Paul Schrader (who will also host a keynote workshop on 20.10. at 18h.) Having gleaned inspiration from experiencing the artists at work up close, you’re invited to turn your attention to the art of drinking at the “Cocktail Finishing” studio, where you can experiment with flavors and colors to create your own unique twist on the classic Bombay Sapphire gin and tonic at the “tonic wall”. You even have the chance to take the artworks they’ve witnessed being made home with them — each piece will be sold on the final day of the pop-up. WHERE CREATIVITY MEETS CONTENT & CONNECTIVITY

WHERE CREATIVITY MEETS CONTENT & CONNECTIVITY

Ever wondered how the likes of Wana Limar, Ace Tee, Sara Nuru and Gen Sadakane take great photos — right from their phones? Here’s your chance to find out: From 19.10.-15.11.2018, you’re invited to meet, share with and learn from a round-up of creatives at the top of their game in the temporary Google Pixel Studio in Mitte. Alongside an exclusive preview of the soon-to-be-released Pixel 3 and the Pixel 3 XL (which don’t hit stores until 2.11.2018), a free and varied program of events — from portrait workshops and cooking classes to exhibitions and collection launches — invites you to step inside the creative world that inspired the phones’ creation. (Hint: it’s all about taking exceptional photos from the palm of your hand). RE:HOF RUTENBERG — RETREAT TO THE SIMPLE LIFE IN BRANDENBURG

RE:HOF RUTENBERG — RETREAT TO THE SIMPLE LIFE IN BRANDENBURG

The elements of happiness? How about a beautiful landscape, fresh country air, good food and wine, an engrossing novel, a log fire to warm the night — and no reception. At Re:hof Rutenberg in Lychen, Brandenburg, going back to basics feels like a luxury. That’s thanks to the love and care that owners and artists Marieken Verheyen and Martin Hansen have dedicated to developing their two-hectare plot of land into a countryside getaway over the past three years. Amidst heritage apple and pear trees and an organic vegetable garden, a converted barn, old vicarage, spacious loft and three private ecolodges invite you to escape the demands of city life. The aim of Re:hof is to be as self-sufficient and energy-independent as possible. That means solar energy panels, dry composting toilets, and a plant-based filtration system to recycle waste water. Here, in the middle of the Uckermark Lakes Nature Park, with its pine forests, bucolic meadows, and crystal clear lakes, it’s all about doing nothing except getting cozy within beautiful interiors (designed in collaboration with the architect Peter Grundmann) with generous glass windows offering sweeping views out onto idyllic fields. A sauna, an outdoor hot tub and a small shop stocked with organic produce ensure you have everything you need to unwind completely. Ready to plan your next escape? Book here, and quickly at that — Re:hof’s calendar fills up fast. (Text & photos: Anna Dorothea Ker)

NEW FLAVORS, NEW SKILLS — GET HANDS-ON AT STADT LAND FOOD

NEW FLAVORS, NEW SKILLS — GET HANDS-ON AT STADT LAND FOOD

Sour beer tastings, fish smoking, butter churning — whatever food fad you’re into at the moment, you’ll find a community and a DIY outlet for it this weekend at Stadt Land Food, hosted by Markthalle Neun together with the who’s who of the Berlin food scene. Guided by the slogan “Good Food for All” and focusing on the connection between ethical farming and ethical food, this year’s edition of the festival, on this weekend, will see the beloved market hall spill out onto Lausitzer Platz and beyond with street food from local vendors, and a special edition farmer’s market featuring 150 producers from around Europe — from Sicilian almonds to Portuguese sardines. And then there are the talks, demonstrations and workshops. Ever wanted to learn how to make your own cheesehoney or pickled vegetables? Or improve your tasting notes when sampling coffee or Pet Nat? Come hungry — you’ll be leaving anything but. (Text: Anna Dorothea Ker / Photos: Markthalle Neun)

P.S. We’re giving away a double pass to the wild oyster shucking workshop on Sunday (in English). Drop us a notesaying why you should be there to win them!
