A music festival with world-renowned artists and no commercial agenda? That’s right. Funkhaus Berlin, established in the 1950s as Eastern Germany’s radio broadcast center, will attract a somewhat different audience of curious listeners to its studio on the weekend of the 1st of October. Integrating the Funkhouse’s various venue spaces into one, Michelberger Music will present bands and musicians such as The National, Bon Iver, Alt J, Damian Rice, Erlend Oye, and Mouse on Mars, to name but a few. Musicians will play several times throughout the day, showcasing completely new songs and old favorites in new ways and in never-heard-before collaborations, and improvise along the way. While musicians are awarded full creative freedom, guests are given no clues as to the schedule, and will discover a mix of genres from opera to punk, indie to pop, in a very personal and spontaneous way. While this event is not taking place this week, tickets are going fast. Top tip: don’t wait for a grand finale — to catch the big names, stick around at about 2 pm, but don’t expect us to tell you where! Get your tickets here. (Text: Victoria Centaro)
