LINGERIE & SELF-DETERMINATION — COME AS YOU ARE WITH CC’S CALENDAR TIPS

LINGERIE & SELF-DETERMINATION — COME AS YOU ARE WITH CC’S CALENDAR TIPS

Between fresh starts and dress codes, freehand sketches and Viennese lace — that’s this week in a nutshell. It’s definitely worth showing up for, and, yes, even worth shedding layers for. Here are CC’s calendar picks. At Haus am KleistparkCihan Çakmak‘s solo exhibition Leaving was the only option left opens Friday (23.01.2026). Through photographic self-portraits, video, drawings, and texts, the artist explores questions of origin and self-determination. Her work navigates familial imprint and inner tension — between the desire for belonging and the need to set boundaries. In Friedrichshain, another kind of farewell echoes through the speakers. Final Call marks the closure of zqm airways after three years of project work. Over the weekend (23.–25.01.), everyone who has shaped the space over the years will gather one last time, including Catharina SzonnMarta Djourina, and many more. Please make your way to the gate! If you need something to warm you up, Ma-Makan has you covered. Their Laksa Winter runs on selected days until 01.03.2026. The Nyonya laksa (coconut milk and chili based) warms as long as winter lingers: rich, creamy, and intensely spiced. In Prenzlauer Berg, two giants meet on Saturday (24.01.) at the Matcha & Tiramisu Pop-up, Japanese tea extract and Italian dessert are layered for maximum indulgence.

Behind it all are Atelier Kyo and Kenzy Club. The menu also features hojicha tiramisu, matching lattes, and classic usucha (a light, thin matcha). Plus, sneak peeks at upcoming workshops and supper clubs. On Saturday evening (24.01.), the Ring Bar turns into a conference room. Halb Kunst‘s Collective Drawing Performance stages itself as a business meeting, complete with suits and ties. Instead of minutes, drawings emerge; instead of small talk, collective action. The daily work routine isn’t caricatured here, but reimagined — playful and collaborative. Those who prefer to roam without a dress code (or without much on at all) can stop by the Soda City Tour on Wiener Straße starting Monday (26.01.). For almost two weeks, the space will be dedicated to Austria’s Soda Lingerie — an invitation for quick visits or longer stays, for self-love and fine fabrics. Show up and strip down!

WARM HANDS, OPEN MINDS — KNITTING, KNEADING & OUR CC CALENDAR TIPS

WARM HANDS, OPEN MINDS — KNITTING, KNEADING & OUR CC CALENDAR TIPS

So your fingers don’t freeze this week, sink them into sourdough, keep them moving with knitting needles, and leaf through magazines. Here are CC’s Calendar tips — for warm hands and open minds. Let’s start with a bit of printer’s ink. On Friday (16.01.), Purgatory Magazine celebrates the release of its tenth issue with a release party. There will be reading, dancing, listening, and talking, and, of course, a first look at the new issue. It’s called “There’s Nothing In My Dreams”, but there’s plenty there that evening: paper, nice people, and a place to disappear into. Saturday (17.01.) brings fresh air to your wardrobe, without buying anything new. At the Swap Market at Desi Diner, you can swap, pass on, and recombine. Clothes, accessories, and anything ready for a second life will change hands. Admission is donation-based and there will be snacks and plenty of time to browse. It stays soft and fabric-focused on Sunday (18.01.) with the first Knitting Café, which is all about stitches and snacks. For a few hours, Neumanns Bäckerei will become a meeting place for anyone who wants to keep their hands busy and enjoy some company: a cozy spot to knit, crochet, talk, or stay quiet together, accompanied by cake and warm drinks.

Also on Sunday (18.01.), there’s a contrasting program (at least conceptually). “Riskier alles – Kunst und Sport” invites you to a Sunday get-together at Galerienhaus. The group exhibition brings together works on the body, reaction, and the constant in-between of control and loss of control. Among them is “Quick Reaction” by Katharina Reinsbach. On an advertising column, she lines up endless blind drawings, echoing the short-lived Instagram stories of a single weekend. No risk, no art! If you miss the feeling of dough on your hands after Christmas, join the Sourdough Workshop on Monday (20.01.). For tourists and locals alike, the recipe is slow, together, hands-on. Bread baking as an antidote to constant noise. Learn the basics of sourdough, fermentation, and a few little tricks. No prior knowledge required! On Tuesday and Wednesday (20.-21.01.), things get pleasantly uncomfortable: a piece of furniture with worldly intentions. A melancholic horse. The uncomfortable exhibition at Backhaus Projects brings together situations and moods that refuse to soothe. It’s about friction, about the feeling of not sitting right — in the room, in the system, in your own body. On Wednesday, a performance by Annita Sleep rounds off the evening. A week to warm up, for hands and hearts.

LITERATURE, LOVE, LOOSE TONGUES — CC’S CALENDAR TIPS FOR A FRESH START

LITERATURE, LOVE, LOOSE TONGUES — CC’S CALENDAR TIPS FOR A FRESH START

Conscious indulgence, rebellious bodies, new love, and a plunge into icy waters — Dry January has never been so wet (or so fearless). Here are CC’s Calendar tips for a fresh start. Tonight (08.01.2026) is already promisingly full. If you enjoy writings read aloud, this is for you. Cover Crop invites you to an early evening of readings and music at Café Tiergarten, where authors like Niklas Buescher and Anna R. Winder will share their work. It’s the perfect spot to kick off the year and discover new voices. At Gropius Bau, the new year (08.01.) begins with desire and a refusal to conform. The first Spätschicht event of the year, in collaboration with the Schwules Museum, is a queer space for reflection, blending screenings, book presentations, and performances. Here, the body acts as a site of negotiation with society, with queer ancestors, with one another. Live on stage, find Hugo Tepest, River Roux, Ulrike Ottinger, and more. Admission is free, and the event will be conducted in German, English, with German and international sign language. Mindful drinking? If the holidays left you out of practice, this is your chance for delicious lessons. The Mindful Drinking Club hosts a tasting of Proxies tonight (08.01.) with independent beverages that refuse to be measured against wine or cocktails. The English session All Eyes on: Proxies dives deep into production methods, fresh ideas, and distinctions. Drinks are served in the studio next door at MS Tapete and spots are limited. Another round takes place the following two Thursdays!

If you’ve ever wanted to attend a silent concert, here’s your chance. Shida Shahabi is coming to Hau to make music that leaves room to breathe. On Friday (09.01.), the Swedish-Iranian composer will demonstrate how piano, cello, and electronics can interplay slowly and subtly. Afterwards, Léopold Collin from Paris will enchant with Helen Island through atmospheric songs blending lo-fi, trip-hop, and floating melancholy. New year, new love? Not necessarily. The new group exhibition Love Is A Losing Game at PSM Gallery approaches the subject without romanticizing it. Artists like Tala Madani, Dean Sameshima, and Katja Aufleger explore intimacy, desire, and relationships at the intersection of technology and everyday life. Anyone in the mood to reflect on love should come to the opening on Saturday (10.01.). If you’re feeling crafty this year, join Snakegarden‘s Winter Floral Workshop. On Sunday (11.01.), Kaffeekreis offers a slow-paced start to the day: choose flowers, keep your hands busy, clear your head, and take home a beautiful bouquet. The atmosphere is calm and warm, with snacks. And for those who want a slightly more festive binding experience, there’s even a glass of Prosecco. This Sunday ritual makes a short, cold adventure: it’s time for the Plötzi Plunge. Meet on Sunday morning (11.01.) at Strandbad Plötzensee. After a brief group warm-up, everyone heads into the icy water together. Then it’s straight back out, but the amazing feeling of starting the week wide awake and in a good mood stays with you. Participation is donation-based and open to anyone ready to take the plunge.

HANG IN THERE UNTIL NEW YEAR’S EVE — THE LAST CC CALENDAR TIPS FOR 2025: FRAGILE, BRIGHT & SPARKLING

HANG IN THERE UNTIL NEW YEAR’S EVE — THE LAST CC CALENDAR TIPS FOR 2025: FRAGILE, BRIGHT & SPARKLING

The second most important question after “Have you got all your presents yet?” is: “Where can I find them at short notice?” Both questions can be answered this weekend. And for those spending New Year’s Eve in the city, there is hope away from the noisy streets. Here are the CC Calendar tips with the most beautiful markets and best refuges for the end of the year. Between Ku’damm and pre-Christmas exhaustion, the 032c Gallery is hosting a small exhibition loop by Fine Hunting on the theme of aesthetics until Saturday (20.12.). At the intersection of fashion, art, and theory, works by Maria Koch, Reiner Becker, Vasylyna Vrubel, and others come together here — as an invitation to take a closer look, find beauty, and rethink. Well suited for a winter detour off the beaten track. On Sunday (21.12.2025) in Graefekiez, Helka Ceramics is gathering some of the city’s most talented craftspeople at The Gift Shop for a final gift-giving session. Between mulled wine and friendly faces, you can discover glass objects, ceramics, textile works, jewelry, and vintage pieces—including items from The Case Studies, Etna Glass, YCCIJ, and others. Many shops in the neighborhood will also be open, making gift shopping even more relaxed. Also on Sunday (21.12.), Kleistone, the studio for conscious pottery, invites you into its creative halls one last time before the winter break. The Winter Market is ideal for anyone looking for something tangible and valuable to give — or to keep for themselves: ceramics from the studio, samples, and second-choice pieces, plus matching gift wrap and twine. If you work with pottery yourself, you can drop off your pieces to be fired or stock up on clay.

Those who prefer to hide away in the dark over the holidays can do so in some of the Yorck Group’s cinemas. The Delphi Filmpalast, Cinema Paris, and other theaters are showing special programs. On Christmas Eve (24.12.), for example, you can watch The Holdovers, a Christmas film without any kitsch, or previews of new works by François Ozon or Jafar Panahi. On New Year’s Eve (31.12.), the program continues with Hamnet by Chloé Zhao or a classic sneak preview. And of course, there will be popcorn. Those who want to challenge their palates at the end of the year (31.12.) can book a spot at Aerde for their New Year’s Eve celebration. The Lokdepot offers a six-course menu focused on local producers and seasonal harvests, available in vegetarian or omnivorous options. No explosive effects, but precise flavors and clear plates, accompanied by fine wines or non-alcoholic pairings. Or how about New Year’s Eve (31.12.) at Stoke? The NYE menu builds on familiar Stoke classics while still managing to surprise. Early arrivals can enjoy a relaxed meal, while those who come later can slip seamlessly into the party – live DJ from 23h30. Those who prefer to celebrate New Year’s Eve à la carte can stop by Kanal61 on Wednesday (31.12.). New Year’s Eve at Kanal61 means a sharing menu and special wines by the glass that are otherwise only available by the bottle. The kitchen offers meat, fish, or vegetarian options – you choose when making your reservation. Meanwhile, things will be convivial and spicy on 31.12. at Boii Boii in Neukölln. There will also be a four-course New Year’s Eve dinner to share. Highlights include oysters with spicy cucumber foam or Thai curry arancini, followed by main courses of fish, meat, or vegetables – always accompanied by champagne and a live DJ. You can experience one of the most indulgent New Year’s Eves at Nobelhart & Schmutzig. As always, it’s impossible to know in advance exactly what will be served – something seasonal, fermented, and of the highest quality. To drink, there’s rare champagne from La Closerie or natural wine from a magnum bottle. Caution: these pleasures come at a price. Whether at the table or in a cinema seat, we hope you find a safe hiding place—and let your hair down (just not on the street).

GO RUNNING FOR HEARTS: A PROJECT BETWEEN FRIENDSHIP, LOSS AND THE SPIRIT OF MOVING FORWARD — RECOMMENDED BY MARIE WEZ

GO RUNNING FOR HEARTS: A PROJECT BETWEEN FRIENDSHIP, LOSS AND THE SPIRIT OF MOVING FORWARD — RECOMMENDED BY MARIE WEZ

In 2024, Go Miyazaki lost his close friend Robbie Dixon due to a rare condition causing heart failure. Riddled with grief and the deep pain of losing somebody close so suddenly, Go found the memory of his friend floating in tandem with his own emotions whenever he would run, leading him to alchemise both into Go Running for Hearts. “Losing him left a silence I didn’t know how to fill. Running is where I think and feel most deeply and I kept asking myself — How can I get through this? How can I turn this into something meaningful?” The project started raising funds, aiming to support heart disease research at the Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute in Australia through both Go’s personal runs and additional donations. He wanted to not only keep his friend’s memory alive but also actively contribute to raising awareness and resources that could help prevent losses like Robbie’s. As the project gained momentum, Go decided to undertake Satisfy‘s Saddles100, a 160km ultra-marathon race through the desert in Arizona. “It was the hardest physical and mental challenge I’ve ever faced. There were moments where I questioned myself — moments of pain, moments where I felt complete emptiness, but also moments where I felt Robbie beside me, pushing me forward, reminding me why I started this journey. Crossing that finish line wasn’t just an achievement; it was a promise kept, a tribute fulfilled, and a moment I will carry with me forever.”

Go’s journey in Arizona has been documented by Berlin-based director Jack Hare and cinematographer Nela Wojaczkovaand is supported by Salomon and VooStore, where Go might be a familiar face for locals, working as Voo Deli’s head barista. It’s a moving story of friendship, grief, loss, community and the power of spirit. The documentary will be premiered on December 13 alongside an exhibition at VooSpace. “Go Running for Hearts” has so far raised over 5k Euro and is an ever-growing project. To donate and support Go’s mission, please find the project’s GoFundMe link here
