LIFESTYLE FESTIVAL WITH SUSTAINABLE FASHION, FUN DESIGN PIECES, LIVE BANDS, DJ SETS AND STREET FOOD — THE NIGHTMARKET

LIFESTYLE FESTIVAL WITH SUSTAINABLE FASHION, FUN DESIGN PIECES, LIVE BANDS, DJ SETS AND STREET FOOD — THE NIGHTMARKET

With a vintage Japanese blouse in one hand and a Brammibals donut in the other, you look out over an abundance of wonderful and weird wares. In one corner you see handbags made of old bits of sneaker, in another are lycra bodysuits with a print that can only be described as “phallus-meets-church-window”. No, this isn’t a post-Berghain fever dream: it’s precisely what you will encounter at The Nightmarket, a two-day fashion and design market that brings together everything from sustainable garments to spicy street food (28 & 29.04.2023). Held under one big roof at Nåpoleon Komplex in Friedrichshain, the Frankfurt-founded event will be highlighting 50 small, local designers based in Berlin. Wardrobe wise, you’ll find shiny no-waste party wear from Impari, body-blessing tops and sets from Stella Graber and the aforementioned sneaker bags from Haram.

Beyond clothing, you can check out tongue-in-cheek candles and soaps from That Gay Creation and designs from Berlin’s favorite unicorn artist Roy DrawsDas Wetter magazine will be there with their latest issue, as will stylish sexual wellness brand Nevernot. Once your shopping bag is full, you can take a break with a taco or two (or three) from the food corner outside while catching some live music. But take your time: both days go on until 2am, with a Secret-Warehouse Party at 22h with DJs ‘til late. All-day fashion, food and fun – what more could our spring selves want?

TAKEOVER WITH NORI FOAM AND POPCORN ICE CREAM: MICHAEL SILHAVI SERVES A FIVE-COURSE MENU AS PART OF THE “KINK INVITES” SERIES

TAKEOVER WITH NORI FOAM AND POPCORN ICE CREAM: MICHAEL SILHAVI SERVES A FIVE-COURSE MENU AS PART OF THE “KINK INVITES” SERIES

Since its opening in 2020, Kink Bar & Restaurant has hosted countless dinners and seemingly endless nights. The start of 2023 has brought something new to check out: ‘Kink invites’, the team’s latest event series that welcomes inspiring players from the gastro world to Kink’s kitchen. On Monday 17.04.2022 Verona-based French chef Michael Silhavi will be the latest to take over the reins at the stylish eatery. Michael runs the restaurant Filia in the Italian city, comprising only five tables and serving a rotating tasting menu. The concept: bringing together the tradition of Italian dining with the innovation of new techniques. For the Kink takeover, Michael will be putting on a five-course menu of classics with a twist. You can expect a Japanese rendition of beef tartare with sushi rice foam and nori pesto, a playful dessert of ripened banana with popcorn ice cream, and an ultra-luxurious lobster spaghettoni carbonara with truffle. You can still reserve tickets, but if you can’t make it this time, there will be plenty more to come from the series including “Kink x Invites local heroes” which will gear up in the Summer Season with collaborations with some of our favorite producers in town including Mimi Ferments and Berlin’s truffle “king” Massimo Ferradino. For more news and updates, check out the restaurant’s Instagram channel.

VICTOR FOXTROT DESIGN COMES TO BERLIN — RECOMMENDED BY NILS PHILIPP

VICTOR FOXTROT DESIGN COMES TO BERLIN — RECOMMENDED BY NILS PHILIPP

This is a pop-up that certainly lives up to its name: the colors of the furniture, lighting and home goods from Victor Foxtrot are nothing if not striking. Based in Hamburg, the design studio is setting up shop in Wilmersdorf for one day only this Friday (24.03.2023) with a selection of reduced forms and single colors. These are recurrent themes of founder pair Florian Vogel and Carolin Kreidel’s designs, which are mostly manufactured in their own workshop in the Hansestadt. The duo’s pieces immediately catch your eye with their bright, dazzling forms, making a smart addition to monocolor interiors. A swinging armchair made of powder-coated steel tubes in blood orange? A sage green chair with matching cushions? A wafer-thin pink side table? A neon yellow ottoman under an ocean blue floor lamp? Take your pick. Incidentally: we’re told the name Victor Foxtrot has something to do with cufflinks and the NATO phonetic alphabet – we’ll let Carolin and Florian do the explaining in person…

PHOTOS, FASHION & SNEAK PEEKS — FOTOGRAFISKA DAYS AT ATELIER GARDENS

PHOTOS, FASHION & SNEAK PEEKS — FOTOGRAFISKA DAYS AT ATELIER GARDENS

Many things have changed since the pandemic, one of which is the timing of EMOP, the European Month of Photography. Traditionally it’s always taken place in autumn, but for the tenth edition of the photo festival it has shifted to spring. The timing is ideal – not least because of the planned launch of the Berlin branch of the Fotografiska museum in Stockholm. It’s the latest project by Yoram Roth, the Berlin developer with a love of pop art and Berlin institutions (Clärchens Ballhaus, tip magazine). To take advantage of EMOP and to start things with a bang, Fotografiska is offering a sneak peek next week with Fotografiska Days (23–25.03.2023). Under the banner “Cultural Fabric – Rereading the Relationship Between Fashion and Art Practices,” the program will run at the Atelier Gardens on the former BUFA campus in Tempelhof with a group exhibition, panel discussions, workshops, portfolio reviews, film screenings and a party.

The topic at hand is contemporary culture and its values, portrayal and meaning, with particular focus on the interplay between image and fashion. Fashion theorist Lea Vene helped Fotografiska curators Marina Paulenka and Thomas Schäfer to create what is a very inspiring program. Artists on show include Cibelle Cavalli Bastos, Julie Poly, Carlota Guerrero and Mouse Lamrab and the party line-up is already fixed. It’s set to be a wonderfully diverse and high-quality program that will leave you wanting more – which is not a problem, since you will have the new gallery to check out later in 2023. It will be located in the old Tacheles building on Oranienburger Straße (another Berlin classic), bringing a new kind of art back to its traditional walls.
