DEVID STRIESOW IN CONVERSATION — TABLE TALK EVENT WITH DINNER AND DRINKS AT THE DRIVE SALON

DEVID STRIESOW IN CONVERSATION — TABLE TALK EVENT WITH DINNER AND DRINKS AT THE DRIVE SALON

When it comes to dinner gatherings, it’s the people that make the party. Having the right guests can be the difference between a flavorless flop and a fun feast. But before you start frantically swiping through your contact list for your next party, you might want to check out the Table Talks dinner series. At these dinners in the Drive Volkswagen Group Forum on Friedrichstraße, they’ve already taken care of the guests – or, to be more accurate, guest – since each event will welcome a famous face from the arts, culture or public life. Next month, actor and author Devid Striesow will be invited for an evening of conversation and cuisine (04.11.2022 from 18h30). The three-course dinner and drinks in the Drive Salon will be accompanied by a conversation with Striesow about his new book “Klassik drastisch”, in which he writes of his love for classical music with his co-author, director Axel Ranisch. With the star guest sorted, all that’s left to do is pick your lucky dinner companion. Besties to the front…

FORM AND FUNCTION — MODERN DESIGN OBJECTS AT THE ZEUGHAUSMESSE EXHIBITION

FORM AND FUNCTION — MODERN DESIGN OBJECTS AT THE ZEUGHAUSMESSE EXHIBITION

If your fingers have been stuck to your smartphone lately, maybe it’s time for a change of haptics – at this weekend’s Zeughausmesse (13–16.10.2022). Held at the Kühlhaus am Gleisdreieck, the four-day event is all about exploring materials. Under one roof you’ll find artists and designers from all kinds of disciplines, including jewelry, ceramics, fashion and interior design. All explore materials and form in creative and often innovative ways. You’ll find objects which have a clear function and objects whose purpose is more artistic. The latter applies to the free-formed crystal elements by Veronika Beckh, made from glass that is cut, polished, glued and turned into shapes that elude interpretation but certainly not your gaze. Meanwhile, designer Anastasiya Koshcheeva-Rasehorn has devoted herself to birch, transforming its light bark into accessories and even furniture. For Birgit Wortmann the focus is on silk, which she uses to hand weave colorful scarves. The market gives you the chance to meet the designers and ask them about their designs, materials, production methods and uses. All handmade, these objects reveal a lot about their designers – and, no doubt, their future owners…

FORCE OF NATURE — DOMINIK EULBERG BRINGS TECHNO SOUNDS AND BIRDSONG TO URANIA BERLIN

FORCE OF NATURE — DOMINIK EULBERG BRINGS TECHNO SOUNDS AND BIRDSONG TO URANIA BERLIN

Techno and tweets? Synths and squawks? As far as Dominik Eulberg is concerned, electronic music and nature are not distinct, but two sides of the same coin. Spending half his time behind the DJ decks and the rest birdwatching, the music producer and ecologist has made a career out of blending art and nature. Tomorrow night, Eulberg is bringing his brand of minimal techno and animal sounds to Urania Berlin in Schöneberg for a one-night-only multimedia concert (07.10.2022 19h30). The show is called Mikroorgasmen überall and follows the publication of Eulberg’s book of the same name where he reveals the secret lives of the bugs, plants and birds that live on our doorsteps. The concert layers live sounds, videos and nature samples interspersed with factual snippets about plants and animals. The aim is not just to entertain, but to educate you about the natural world. Pervading Eulberg’s performances is an almost fanatical love of wildlife: he named each of the tracks on his latest album after species of birds and even lets a colony of ants play his Moog synthesizer. Quite what that sounds like, we don’t know – but we’re here for it.

DAY TRIP WITH MUSIC, PERFORMANCE AND FOOD IN A HISTORIC LOCATION — FORTUNA FOREST AT BEELITZ HEILSTÄTTEN

DAY TRIP WITH MUSIC, PERFORMANCE AND FOOD IN A HISTORIC LOCATION — FORTUNA FOREST AT BEELITZ HEILSTÄTTEN

When you go to one of Fortuna Forest’s events, it normally means you’ll be swapping the noisy and hectic city for an enchanted, abandoned spot in Brandenburg. The collective’s culinary events feature acoustic accompaniment in the form of electronic and experimental sounds from female musicians. On 01 & 02.10.2022, the crew are inviting you to their sixth edition, which this time takes place in the historic “Männer Wohnpavillon” (“Mens Living Quarters”) at Beelitz Heilstätten, a long-shuttered infirmary. Besides food you will be treated to the usual music plus video and forest installations presented in Beelitz’s eerie rooms.

On Saturday (01.10) you can enjoy sounds from Kei Watanabe and DJ Sloush as you snuggle up on camp beds with blankets. On Sunday (02.10) Super Inter and Baal & Mortimer will take over the reins, before the founder of Fortuna Forest herself performs “Animal Deluxe”. Responsible for this multi-sensory program is the team from Cashmere Radio. As for the food, expect tasty and authentic canteen fare. If you’re interested in Beelitz sanatorium itself, you can also go on a short tour of the ghostly site.

LITERATURE FOR TOMORROW’S WORLD — MINI CONFERENCE HOSTED BY KAPSEL MAGAZINE

LITERATURE FOR TOMORROW’S WORLD — MINI CONFERENCE HOSTED BY KAPSEL MAGAZINE

This week there’s a literary glimmer of hope in town. At the “Zukunftsaussichten” conference organized by Kapsel, a magazine for Chinese science fiction, you are invited to think about the world of tomorrow. Held at both the Literarisches Colloquium Berlin in Wannsee and Acud in Mitte is a three-day program of readings and discussions running until tomorrow (30.09.2022). The question on everyone’s minds? The world of tomorrow and how literature can contribute to it. The event marks the publication of Kapsel’s book Kollaps und Hope Porn. 13 Zukunftsaussichten (“Collapse and Hope Porn. 13 Prospects for the Future”) which covers everything from YouTube channels run by single grandfathers to road trips, cyber voyages through foam, “somatic simultaneities” (stay with us) and “sexy transplants”. The book includes works by authors like Joshua Groß, Anna Hetzer and Rudi Nuss. In addition to these 13 mind-bending texts, there’s food for thought from authors like Dietmar Darth and Regina Kanyu to guide us towards an uncertain tomorrow.
