ZORA’S DAUGHTER X AUGUSTE VINTAGE POP-UP EDITION 2 — BACK WITH MORE FASHION AND DESIGN PIECES

ZORA’S DAUGHTER X AUGUSTE VINTAGE POP-UP EDITION 2 — BACK WITH MORE FASHION AND DESIGN PIECES

Back for another edition of their Zora’s Daughter x Auguste Vintage Pop-up, Marie Wez (of Auguste Vintage) and Nella Beljan (of Zora’s Daughter) have brought together the best of ceramics, clothing, homewares and jewellery for three days of pop-up design and fashion. True to form, the selection features creations from near and far: from Berlin there’s potter Jérémy Bellina’s homewares, Kiki Dieterle’s rings and bracelets, ceramics by Good Clay Sunshine and unisex fashion from Studio Abeles. From further afield come resin jewellery and homewares from Australia-based Dinosaur Designs, pullovers from Galician designers Rus, sculpted pots from Greek artist Terps plus elegant fine-rib bodysuits hailing from Barcelona. If you are an appreciator of thoughtful design and small-scale manufacturing and looking to kit out your kitchen, living room or wardrobe, this weekend’s pop-up is not to be missed. 1:1 CONCERTS — AN EXTRAORDINARY TEN-MINUTE ENCOUNTER WITH A MUSICIAN

1:1 CONCERTS — AN EXTRAORDINARY TEN-MINUTE ENCOUNTER WITH A MUSICIAN

As far as immersive musical experiences go, 1:1 Concerts is something special. This concert series enables you to spend ten minutes enjoying a one-on-one performance sitting right in front of the person playing. Inspired by Marina Abramović’s performance The Artist Is Present, the project was launched in 2019 by Stephanie Winker, Franziska Ritter and Christian Siegmund for the chamber music festival in Volkenroda, Thuringia, and has since developed into a nationwide series. You experience the concert alone and in silence in an unfamiliar environment: perhaps in nature, at an art gallery or – coming this weekend – an empty warehouse at Berlin Decks, a former industrial site and future workplace in Moabit. On Friday (12.06.2020) you can discover this space and get a treat for your ears as you come face to face with a maestro. The musician and piece played remain a surprise, but what’s certain is it will be an experience to remember. (Text: Ramona Razaghmanesh / Photos: Astis Krause, Lotte Dibbern & Maks Richter)

JOIN A VIRTUAL JOURNEY TO TODAY’S CHINA WITH BERLIN TRAVEL NIGHT TEN

JOIN A VIRTUAL JOURNEY TO TODAY’S CHINA WITH BERLIN TRAVEL NIGHT TEN

We’ve long been fans of the Berlin Travel Night series – indeed we co-hosted one last year. The tenth installment, happening tonight (30.04.2020) is all about China and you won’t even have to leave your house to join in the journey. Live on Instagram, host Katie Gallus will be joined by author Simone Harre to discuss her new book China, who are you? and the five years she spent regularly touring the country to write it. Following encounters with everyone from millionaires to taxi drivers, Harre tells a story of a diverse country as fascinating as it is unknowable. It’s an adventure that is well worth streaming as we await the real-life Berlin Travel Festival to make up for the cancelled event in March. FEMINIST FOOD CLUB CRISIS TALKS — SHARING VISIONS ON THE FUTURE OF THE GASTRO SCENE

FEMINIST FOOD CLUB CRISIS TALKS — SHARING VISIONS ON THE FUTURE OF THE GASTRO SCENE

There are numerous initiatives that have come to the aid of Berlin’s gastro scene during this time, but what about the measures and innovations needed for the post-Corona era? The Feminist Food Club deals with precisely this issue. Launched in 2017 by Stil in Berlin founder Mary Scherpe and designer Ruth Bartlett to provide a platform for women and non-binary people in the industry, the project’s new Corona Crisis Talks address the challenges currently faced whilst looking to the future too. These Instagram interviews have seen Mary talk to Berlin restaurateurs including Anders Alkaersig from Albatross and Sarah Durante from Humble Pie about individual approaches in areas like PR, online selling and financing. The series asks important questions that are relevant to business owners planning for the future, but does it in a way that’s interesting to the regular restaurant-goer. The interviews go out live on Instagram; check out previous talks on the Feminist Food Club website. (Text: Hanna Komornizyk / Photos: Viviana Blihoghe & Margaret Flatley)

CHARGE UP ON E-MOBILITY KNOWLEDGE — START TO DRIVE ELECTRIC

CHARGE UP ON E-MOBILITY KNOWLEDGE — START TO DRIVE ELECTRIC

If lithium-ion cells, AC fast charging and regenerative braking sound like a foreign language to you, then it’s time to wise up on e-mobility. Soon all your road journeys will be electrically powered, so it’s only right to get informed about this alternative energy. The “Start to Drive Electric” exhibition, opening on 12.03.2020 at the Drive Volkswagen Group Forum on Friedrichstraße, is your highway to this knowledge. Packed with interactive displays showing the cutting edge in four-wheeled technology, it promises immersive learning that’s the opposite to a session on Wikipedia. The highlight is The Accelerator, a 360 degree walk-in cinema where you learn about e-mobility not just with facts and figures, but feelings and emotions too. Besides showing you the underlying tech, the exhibition also hosts discussions on topics like driving feel and design, as well as practical advice on charging and vehicle range. And for those heading to the opening night, there will be a special musical treat to get things shifted into higher gear. Welcome to the electric era. (Text: Benji Haughton / Photos: VW Drive)
