WINE RUSH — DISCOVER WHAT’S NEW IN EUROPEAN NATURALS

Natural wine lovers — if you couldn’t make it to Raw Wine Berlin last month, or it left you wanting more, you’re in luck: This Sunday (17.6.2018), Holzmarkt is hosting the fifth edition of independent natural wine fair Wine Rush, organized by Jeff Roy of Rocket Wine Berlin. Over 40 winemakers from across Europe will present their most exciting offerings, including eight German natural winemakers — like Staffelter Hof from Mosel or Kraemer from Franken. The best way to demystify this hyped (albeit ancient) craft is to taste and discover its richness and variety for yourself, and to ask the friendly vintners to share the story of the drop you’re sampling. Take the chance to replenish your wine cellar, or pick up a bottle to pair with dinner that evening — tasting your way around Europe’s wine growing regions along the way. APERITIVO FOR A GOOD CAUSE: NEGRONI WEEK 2018

Florence, Italy, 1919. A request from a bar patron to stiffen up a classic Americano cocktail (Campari, vermouth, soda water) was met by replacing soda water with gin. The customer was Count Camillo Negroni, and the drink to which he lent his name remains an icon nearly a century later. Next week (4-10.6.2018), its legacy will be lent to myriad good causes worldwide under the banner of Negroni Week, a seven-day celebration of the bittersweet aperitivo classic, organized by Campari and Imbibe magazine to raise money for charity. Over 1,000 bars will take part across Germany, each creating their own unique twist to the cocktail — like the “Negroni Amicizia” by Curtain Club or the “Negroni Palais de Tokyo” by Schumann’s Bar. That’s just a taster though. Each will donate a portion of their profits to a charity of their choice, such as Tafel Deutschland, which works to eliminate food waste. WORLD WITHOUT OUTSIDE: TINO SEHGAL CO-CURATES IMMERSIVE ART EXPERIENCE

It’s often the kind of art that demands active engagement that gets under our skin and stays on our minds the longest. Blurring the boundaries between the viewer and the viewed by asking for our participation this summer is “Welt Ohne Außen” (“World Without Outside”), an extensive exhibition hosted by Gropius Bau. Leading the curation is Berlin-based artist Tino Sehgal, known for his “constructed situations,” and Thomas Oberender, director of the institution’s Immersion program. A survey of experiential installations, situations and works spanning the late 1960s up until the present lures us in — from an “environment” created by Lucio Fontana and Nanda Vigo to Carsten Höller’s “Light Wall” and VR experiences by Nonny de la Peña. An accompanying program of daily workshops and live works, open to all, will transcend the boundaries between artistic disciplines and challenge participants to engage their senses, bodies and emotions together with a group of artists that includes Claire Vivianne Sobottke, Maria Francesca Scaroni and Xavier Le Roy. FIVE EXQUISITE FOOD AND BEER PAIRINGS AT BRLO BRWHOUSE

It’s time for a gastronomic get-together of a different kind: On 28.5.2018, Brlo Brwhouse will unite brewing and cuisine under the label “Fünf – Vol. II“. This dinner event takes the form of five courses, prepared by five Berlin chefs, and paired with its own craft beer. Taking part this round are the Berlin establishments Kin Dee, Golvet, Frühsammers Restaurant and Brlo as well as The Nuc Duc Ngo, whose newest café, Toki The White Rabbit, recently caught our attention. Taking care of the drink pairing is beer sommelière, Sophia Wenzel, who has sourced her selection not only from the event host, but also from the breweries Heidenpeters, Schoppe Bräu, Bierfabrik and Fuerst Wiacek. CRESCENDO — UDK BERLIN TAKES CLASSICAL TO NEW HEIGHTS

Art schools and universities are hubs for creative freedom — spaces in which diverse visions can be shared, tested and formed for the future. From tomorrow, Berlin University of the Arts’ (UdK) festival of music “Crescendo” will share their aural perspectives with the public over 15 days of performances, masterclasses and artistic experiments. The program, designed by internationally renowned musicians and UdK Berlin Professors, Konstantin Heidrich and Markus Groh, is this year guided by the leitmotif of “imperfection” — creative processes still in development, fragmented programs, potential yet to be fulfilled. This manifests in performances like the “immersive.architecture.generator” (31.5 & 1.6.2018), in which a piano trio meets artificial intelligence and augmented reality, challenging the audience’s sensory perception of classical music. Or Bach’s incomplete work “The Art of Fugue” performed live whilst being reinterpreted on canvas by fine arts students (6.6.2018).
