STAY & PLAY: NOMADS APT. LAUNCHES THREE NEW SPACES

STAY & PLAY: NOMADS APT. LAUNCHES THREE NEW SPACES

For over a year Nomads Apt. has been Berlin’s go-to unique boutique concept for just about everything you could imagine — from a weekend staycation to an amped up work party and even creative photo and video shoots. In May 2017, they’re expanding their brand with three new, whimsical apartment spaces and an exposed concrete art gallery. Themed, yet open for interpretation and play, Each new apartment has its own name — “Sober”, “Pretty”, and “Flow” — and is decked out with high-end furnishings and one-of-a-kind playful pieces to reflect their particular fantasy worlds. Take Sober’s dance floor that seamlessly transitions into a bed for example, the tiny door à la Alice in Wonderland, or Pretty’s lavish costumes and wigs that are just begging to be played with. Bursting with surprise and delight, paired with extremely detail-oriented and personal service, Sober, Pretty, and Flow are inspiring spaces to keep in mind when planning your next exceptional experience. To celebrate these new work, stay and play environments, check out their gallery opening of artist Lennart Grau‘s powerful paintings and Axel Anklam‘s incredible “Boreaden” exhibition on 29.4.17, from 16-19h. TAKE ME TO THE LAKES — YOUR GUIDE TO THE PERFECT SUMMER

TAKE ME TO THE LAKES — YOUR GUIDE TO THE PERFECT SUMMER

This handy, compact book wasn’t made for the coffee table — but rather for the passenger seat. And that’s where it should stay all summer long: whether heading north, south, west or east, “Take me to the Lakes” is your compass to the most beautiful bathing spots in and around Berlin, including tips for scenic pit stops and overnight stays en route. Karolina Rosina and Nils Kraiczy have filtered the best of the region and compiled their selection with beautiful photographs, charming texts and precise directions. Beautifully designed, this book is a manual that will make you want to get on the road straight away. We recommend picking up a copy for yourself and your friends — that way you’ll have enough lake trip companions for the coming months, for getaways both mini and more substantial. Let summer begin! KRISTIANE KEGELMANN TURNS CHOCOLATERIE INTO A FINE ART

KRISTIANE KEGELMANN TURNS CHOCOLATERIE INTO A FINE ART

Take a closer look at the sculptural installations of Kristine Kegelmann and you might find yourself thinking they look good enough to eat. You’d be right — they are. Working exclusively with natural, high quality ingredients, the trained patissier and food artist takes praline creation into the realm of fine art, producing mouthwatering sugar sculptures for exhibitions, events and custom orders. Having just opened her Prenzlauer Berg studio in March 2017, Kegelmann is now inviting the public to experience her edible art through open days and workshops. The next one takes place on 23.3.17, when you can join her for an evening of artistic praline experimentation and creation, inspired by springtime in Berlin. Over wine and savory nibbles, you’ll learn the building blocks of chocolaterie, engage in a chocolate tasting and create your own sugar pieces to take home. Intrigued? Find out more and register here, and support Kegelmann’s endeavors by contributing to her Kickstarter campaign, which ends this Saturday (18.3.17). BOOKMARK SCHMUTZ, BERLIN’S NEW LIVE MUSIC LISTING GUIDE

BOOKMARK SCHMUTZ, BERLIN’S NEW LIVE MUSIC LISTING GUIDE

How often have you caught sight of your favourite band’s poster plastered on a city wall, only to see they played a month ago? Or saved a Facebook event before missing out on tickets — again? Here to prevent future disappointment over sold out shows and sets passed by is Schmutz, a new guide for live music in Berlin. Currently taking the form of a listing platform, the venture encompasses a diversity of genres, from RnB to black metal, whilst remaining artfully curated. It’s also pleasure to navigate, with streamlined design, a venue map and an accompanying Soundcloud playlist of monthly mixes. There are plans in store for the platform to move offline, too — we hear murmurs of a launch party this month, plus DJ sets and artist collaborations. Bookmark it now: this is a website worth keeping an eye (and two ears) on. (Text: Anna Dorothea Ker)

INES LAUBER RECOMMENDS: WINTER WANDERING IN PRIGNITZ

INES LAUBER RECOMMENDS: WINTER WANDERING IN PRIGNITZ

It’s great to live in a city like Berlin, where cultural offerings are in constant competition and where culinary adventures thrive. But it’s exactly this overdrive of things, people and events that awakens a desire for silence and forest air. The perfect escape is a day trip to the Prignitz district, located two hours northwest of Berlin by train. In the village of Pritzwalk, we stroll past harvested fields towards the nature park Hainholz, home to woodpeckers and deer. In the neighboring town, Heiligengrabe, you can visit a monastery built in the 13th century, which is today inhabited by nuns. And you won’t go hungry out here either: the beautiful Hotel Klosterhof Heiligengrabe, offers a menu based around seasonal, regional ingredients. It’s worth driving out to Prignitz any time of year, but you must come back in the summer to make use of the plentiful cycle paths and walking trails. I can’t wait. (Text & photos : Inés Lauber)
