DEEP CALM FOR BODY & MIND — VIVIEN & YOU MASSAGE

DEEP CALM FOR BODY & MIND — VIVIEN & YOU MASSAGE

With her combined practice of massage, energy work, movement, and mindful rituals, Vivienne offers a holistic, calming experience in Mitte, one that relaxes the body and mind, releases tension, and grounds. And a little tension slips right off your shoulders the moment Vivienne opens her door on Almstadtstraße with a broad smile. Slowly, you follow her down the stairs into a monochrome room. The space smells woody and earthy — incredibly good. Vivienne radiates such calm that you can’t help but wonder how she maintains it in a city like Berlin. When you lie down on the couch in the quiet room, time stands still. Then… Vivienne begins the massage. A dancer, choreographer, and bodyworker, Vivienne not only teaches various movement formats in studios across the city but also devotes herself to the bodies of Berliners battered by sport, work, and life. She works with Reiki, gong, massage, and energy work — with movement, self-expression, and community at the heart of her practice. A trained anthropologist, she is also certified in deep tissue, wellness, sports, and trigger point massage, as well as Kobido, a traditional Japanese facial massage with eight techniques, which she integrates into her sessions.

Vivienne pays particular attention to oxygen-depleted areas in the body. Her massages combine anatomical knowledge with a sensitivity to breathing, energy, and expression. Every treatment at VV You follows a carefully designed sequence. In addition to massage, aromatherapy, red light, hot towels with Japanese mint oil, tea, and water are part of the ritual. These small but intentional details make each visit a complete experience that goes beyond the massage itself. Touch and breath promote circulation, tension is released, and you leave the massage table feeling freer, more flexible, and calmer. It’s as if Vivienne’s spirit lingers with you — as if she presses her groundedness deep into her clients’ muscles. Eventually, you find yourself back on the street, but a little better equipped for the day. For life. At least until the tension creeps back in.

CUTTING IT CLOSE: SALON ADEPT CONNECTS COMMUNITY & CRAFTSMANSHIP

CUTTING IT CLOSE: SALON ADEPT CONNECTS COMMUNITY & CRAFTSMANSHIP

Heat, dry air, saltwater, and chlorinated water from your last trip to the pool or beach vacation? Not the best conditions for your hair. Since the beginning of July 2025, there has been a new place to go for that urgently needed visit to the hairdresser: Adept. Behind the hair salon in Mitte are Ivan, Alina, and Arseniy. Ivan studied philosophy and has been involved in the skateboarding scene for 20 years. Most recently, he ran a barbershop in Moscow. Alina and Arseniy have been building salons for over a decade — he as a hairstylist, she in business management. The idea for Adept came about after they moved to Berlin. Curious friends kept asking when the first salon would finally open here. Questions turned into a plan, and the plan turned into a space: one where you can reinvent yourself. Ivan, Alina, and Arseniy spent almost a year searching for a suitable location until they found the perfect corner space in Mitte. The salon is large, bright, and its layout offers customers and staff the opportunity for open conversations and creativity. The design combines wood with metal, warm tones with clean lines. Prices are not based on gender, but on whether you have your hair cut and colored by a senior stylist or a top stylist. Adept sees itself not only as a hair salon, but also as a meeting place. They are open to collaborations, creative projects, and new ideas. You can book an appointment online via the website.

JELLY MASK, SOFT PILATES OR BOOK CLUB: SOONSU IS THE NEW ADDRESS FOR YOUR SELFCARE ROUTINE

JELLY MASK, SOFT PILATES OR BOOK CLUB: SOONSU IS THE NEW ADDRESS FOR YOUR SELFCARE ROUTINE

Korean facials, Pilates and book club? As different as the offers sound, they all revolve around the same basic idea: you do it because you feel good afterwards. Whether that means working out physically, relaxing for an hour and giving your skin some extra care, or talking about your new favorite book with like-minded people: You should make time for self-care sessions regularly. But finding the right place to do so is not always easy; that’s why we recommend Soonsu. Here, everything revolves around your own wellbeing. The studio is run by two friends, Carla and Goeun: Carla grew up in Germany and is a qualified Pilates instructor, nutritionist and aesthetician. She has gained her experience in recent years in Berlin and Seoul, among other places. Goeun only recently moved here from Seoul – she completed her training as an aesthetician in South Korea and has since gained in-depth knowledge of Korean beauty traditions, which she now wants to share with others. Together they combine the best of both worlds – and offer all treatments in German, English and Korean. The concept behind Soonsu is best described by their self-defined categories: the K-Facials, K-Soul, the K-Club and the K-Space. The facials are inspired by Yin-Yang therapy and traditional Korean skincare rituals. Depending on your time, budget and skin analysis, you can choose between four different treatments: During my visit, we opted for the “Glass Skin Ritual”. If you have clear but somewhat sensitive and dry skin like me, you will be pampered with plenty of moisture without overworking your skin. The treatment lasts an hour in total: before the cleansing, exfoliation and facial massage, it starts with a short tea ceremony and an energy ritual. At the end, Goeun applies a jelly mask – which has a moisturizing and pleasant effect. If you feel like it, you can also book add-ons such as a lip or eye mask.

The next facial on my list is the “Ultrasound Therapy Ritual”: An ultrasound treatment to tighten, firm and revitalize the skin while improving elasticity and reducing fine lines. And if you want to do something good not only for your skin, but also for your body and mind, you should take part in one of the workout classes during your visit; the spectrum ranges from Soft, to Strong or Core Pilates, Manifestation Flow to Face Yoga. For the “K-Club“, the rooms are opened up for exchange, knowledge and growth: From March 2025, Soonsu invites you to the “Sunday Heal & Grow” series every Sunday at 4 pm, with topics such as Female Health, Nutrition, Face Taping and Yoga, or Korean Skincare. If you prefer to lose yourself between the pages of a book, the monthly Book Club is the place to go. There is also the option of renting the studio: On request, you can celebrate your own special occasion in the K-Space. And if you can’t quite decide what to start with among all the activities on offer, there is a perfect solution that takes the decision off your hands: The Soonsu Balance Trial includes facials, Pilates and meditation classes, and a K-Club event. I leave the studio with velvety soft skin, a strong body and mind, and new knowledge; full of anticipation for my next selfcare session with Carla and Goeun.

BIG HOOPS & ACRYLICS IN KREUZBERG — THE NEW STUDIO OF NAIL TECH EXTRAORDINAIRE FENNA LANG

BIG HOOPS & ACRYLICS IN KREUZBERG — THE NEW STUDIO OF NAIL TECH EXTRAORDINAIRE FENNA LANG

It all started with DIY press-ons from the drugstore around the corner. As soon as Fenna Lang was old enough to wear acrylic nails, her designs became an extension of her outfit, strongly influenced by the pop culture and fashion of the 90s. The DIY creations of her youth have long since become a career. She has made a name for herself in the industry with her offbeat designs and has collaborated with Highsnobiety, Numéro and Dior, and even done nail designs for online darlings such as Alex Consani and Charli XCX. Fenna opened her first nail salon in Kreuzberg in December 2024. When we visit the Hamburg native on Hagelberger Straße — not far from Viktoriapark — she greets us with large golden hoops and a broad smile, tooth gems glistening. Hidden behind a bright red door (a welcome sight in the grey of Berlin) lies “by Fenna Lang“, a bright, cozy basement studio originally intended as an apartment, but now provides the perfect backdrop for Fenna’s little world. From futuristic chrome tables right out of an early noughties music video, the iconic “Hand Chairs” by Pols Potten, the perfect comfy leather couch that — as she proudly tells us — she got hold of in the classified ads, to custom pieces such as rotating nail polish shelves and a painting by Tupac Shakur: every piece of furniture in the studio has been curated with attention to detail.

And as with her nail designs, this place is an extension of Fenna’s personal style. She likes to let off steam creatively here. Whether it’s elaborate 3D designs, gel or acrylic, lots of colors and glitter stones or simple monochrome looks — no idea is too simple or too unusual for Fenna and her team. Because expressing yourself with your nails should be fun, and that is guaranteed with a visit to the studio, as is the flow of compliments you’ll get on your new nails.

STUDIO SAMIA SAOUDI — YOUR PAMPERING PROGRAM FOR HANDS AND FEET

STUDIO SAMIA SAOUDI — YOUR PAMPERING PROGRAM FOR HANDS AND FEET

Our feet carry us through life, yet they’re often overlooked when it comes to self-care. Podiatrist Samia Saoudi knows this well — she cares for feet with dedication, and right now, they could certainly use an extra dose of love and attention. So we decided to pay Samia another visit at her studio in Charlottenburg. Our session began with a foot analysis, and Samia’s infectious good mood put us instantly at ease. Then for the next steps: a warming foot bath, a refreshing scrub and a soothing massage. It’s the perfect spa program for feet tired from city life. Our tip for when Berlin fades to shades of gray? Add a pop of color to your nails! Bright reds, delicate lilacs, trendy caramel tones or timeless classics like dark red and violet can bring that extra brightness. And since our feet spend much of the year hidden away in socks and shoes, we don’t forget our hands — they, too, get some extra attention. By the end of our visit, our nail polish matches the decor of Samia’s studio perfectly. Feeling pampered and relaxed, we step out through the dark red double doors, back onto Berlin’s streets and back to the office. One thing’s for sure, we’ll be back soon!
