A HOTEL FOR NATURE-PACKED HOLIDAYS ON THE BALTIC SEA — VIENNA HOUSE BY WYNDHAM AMBER BALTIC AT MISDROY

A HOTEL FOR NATURE-PACKED HOLIDAYS ON THE BALTIC SEA — VIENNA HOUSE BY WYNDHAM AMBER BALTIC AT MISDROY

Wide horizons and long, bright beaches: this sums up why the Baltic Sea is such a popular travel destination. But it’s not just the ocean that draws in tourists: small towns like Misdroy on the island of Wolin in Polish West Pomerania are worth a visit too. Just a two-and-a-half-hour drive from Berlin, Vienna House by Wyndham Amber Baltic in Misdroy is the perfect place to escape the hustle and bustle of city life. The hotel is located directly on a 6km-long sandy beach with sea views from every room (all of which have balconies) and a restaurant with a terrace that backs out onto the shore. It is ideal for families with children or anyone who wants to spend a lot of time outdoors, though there’s lots to enjoy indoors: the restaurant’s floor-to-ceiling windows offer breathtaking views of the sea. As for relaxation, there’s a wellness and spa area and a private beach area with a beach service that takes care of sun loungers and parasols (included with the room, of course). For active holidaymakers, the long beaches are ideal for long walks and kitesurfing, while the Velo Baltica cycle route leads directly to Misdroy. The nearby national park, meanwhile, is ideal for adventurous tours by bike or on foot. Misdroy and Vienna House are perfect for recharging your batteries with a weekend getaway or spontaneous holiday. So pack your swimsuit and head for the sea!

A LAKE FOR YOUR LIST: SABINENSEE NEAR GERSWALDE FOR YOUR NEXT WEEKEND SWIM

A LAKE FOR YOUR LIST: SABINENSEE NEAR GERSWALDE FOR YOUR NEXT WEEKEND SWIM

Changeable weather makes for perfect planning weather: organizing your hit list of lakes for days when Summer lives up to its name. On a recent trip to Gerswalde to visit Parg and Kombini, we were recommended a lake spot – Sabinensee – just a 15 minute drive from the center of town. We followed the main road out of the village for a dip. Hidden on most sides by thick reeds and greenery, the sandy entrance off the L42 makes for easy entry into the refreshing water. There’s a steeped green area to observe the lake, and a jetty for diving in on cooler days when a slow wade feels less feasible. The lake is about 400m wide, and on the partly cloudy day we visited, we swam out far enough to feel the sun on our faces before the drive home.

DESIGNER PIECES, VINTAGE, CERAMICS AND MORE — FASHION POP-UP AT STUDIO LINNÉ

In the heart of Kreuzberg, six creatives have joined forces for the pop-up of the summer! Led by Leon Teke, the 23-year-old founder of the designer archive CopMeIfYouCan, this three day event (04–06.08.2023) promises to be a true shopping extravaganza. The pop-up takes place at florist Studio Linné and includes everything from handmade ceramics and jewelry brought from Paris by Hanna Hänig to carefully selected vintage clothing from A to Z. Up for grabs are a Jean Paul Gaultier corset blazer from the 2004 summer collection and Miu Miu bags in patent leather and wool from the 1999 autumn/winter collection. Also on board are Catalogue and Archangelsberlin, labels that inspire with their diversity. But that’s not all: London designer Rhi Dancey will bring her colorful mesh creations adorned with prints by various artists. It’s worth spending time at this pop-up – ideally with a drink from Lobb Berlin in your hand. Friday night is the opening party with a DJ set by VV$. Don’t miss it!

WELCOME TO BOSTICH: EAT LIKE GODS IN FRANCE

WELCOME TO BOSTICH: EAT LIKE GODS IN FRANCE

It feels a little like we’ve landed in a bistro in the 11th arrondissement: But Bostich, with its white tablecloths and woven chairs close together as they line the sidewalk, is not found in Paris, but in the middle of Wilmersdorf. Yllnora Semsedini and Simon Bühler, who also run Torbar in Mitte, have created a place that is unparalleled in Berlin: The terrace is perfect for watching the hustle and bustle of West Berlin, while in the dining room you have the space to yourself. It almost seems as if Bostich has always been there – even though it only opened a few weeks ago. This may be due to the regulars who flock to the restaurant. The stylish interior provides a tasteful flair from another era, without drifting into clutter. The result is a mix of an elegant, free-spirited zeitgeist and a love of detail. For the interior design Semsedini and Bühler worked together with young craftsmen who know their art. You can make yourself comfortable in front of the pistachio-green walls; on the ceilings you can discover artfully modeled stucco between elegant chandeliers, which are modeled after lobsters and oysters.

In addition to fines de claire oysters and caviar, Bostich offers a terrific seafood platter and a lobster roll. Vegetarians can enjoy their excellent ratatouille, eggplant tartare and risotto with fresh truffles. We can’t decide and order so much that the charming waiter has to set up another table for us on the sidewalk – and it’s worth it, because the fine asparagus carpaccio with Parmesan convinces us just as much as the wonderful beef tartare. In addition to classics of French bistro cuisine, the menu also includes Swiss specialties such as freshly prepared Zürcher Geschnetzeltes. This is thanks to one of the restaurant’s creators: the Swiss Dieter Meier, artist and singer with the band Yello, who has made a name for himself as a restaurateur in recent years. He also gave the restaurant its name: “Bostich” is the name of one of the songs that made Yello famous in the early eighties. And, as is the case with artists’ restaurants, the owners do not specify how the restaurant should be pronounced. The more creative the pronunciation the better!
