A PODCAST ABOUT BUSINESS, STRATEGIES, SUCCESS & OF COURSE FEMALE EMPOWERMENT: WAA — WOMEN’S AUTHORS OF ACHIEVEMENT

A PODCAST ABOUT BUSINESS, STRATEGIES, SUCCESS & OF COURSE FEMALE EMPOWERMENT: WAA — WOMEN’S AUTHORS OF ACHIEVEMENT

How do you build financial independence as an artist? How do you attract new talent to your company? How do you build a sustainable beauty brand – or even run a multi-million dollar business? Answers to questions like these are provided by women* who have already done just that: in the WAA Podcast. The acronym stands for Women’s Authors of Achievement and is a podcast series founded and hosted by Daria Suvorova. So far, the Berliner-by-choice has been able to win over around 70 exciting women* for her podcast to interview them on topics related to their work and careers. The areas of expertise of the interviewees are diverse: from hip-hop culture to mental health and psychedelics to data science and fem tech, everything is covered. And above all: many interesting women*. Among them are those whose work I have appreciated and followed for a long time, partners of our agency Cee Cee Creative, friends and companions like Lana Wittig (formerly with Edition F (and now new with TAZ!)), Nadine Michelberger, co-founder of Michelberger Hotel (who now also has a farm), Anita Tillmanns, founder of the Premium Exhibitions fashion fair, Gemma Comabella, founder of an exciting furniture startup called Cooclo, to Susanna Kim, whose sounds make the best events in town unforgettable.

But the WAA podcast is also a chance for me to meet new players, learn from their strategies, and be inspired by thought-provoking ideas. I’ve bookmarked a few episodes for my summer vacation; on my playlist are episodes with Aileen PuhlmannConstanze Osei, and Deann Evans. With the latter, Daria talked about social commerce. And if you also want to learn a bit more about Cee Cee, listen to episode 71 – Daria kindly invited me as the spokesperson of Cee Cee and our agency Cee Cee Creative to the podcast recording. What will you learn from it? Among other things, how to get featured in Cee Cee and a few insights about the work of our agency Cee Cee Creative. Because we love to support others and also love support: thanks to Daria for the opportunity and to you, our readers, if you listen, share, and recommend.

IT’S ALL SO SÜPER HERE: DISCOVER JEWELRY, ACCESSORIES & OBJECTS IN THE DESIGN GALLERY S+ AT MORITZPLATZ

IT’S ALL SO SÜPER HERE: DISCOVER JEWELRY, ACCESSORIES & OBJECTS IN THE DESIGN GALLERY S+ AT MORITZPLATZ

It used to be one of my favorite stores in the Graefekiez: the Süper Store. Then the store went online, but the concept remained – the Süper Store as a space for handpicked, high-quality products that beautify, simplify, and delight our daily lives. Behind the concept was and still is Elisabeth Schotte, a trained fashion designer and – in addition to her work as curator of her online store – a jewelry designer herself for several years. Now the designer is venturing back into the real world: still in Kreuzberg but this time located at Moritzplatz and Aufbau Haus, her S+ gallery opens this Thursday (22.06.2023). In focus: her oeuvre. Or rather her latest creation, the 12-piece jewelry collection “Intaglio”, which focuses on ancient figures such as cherubs, nymphs, and mythological animals. The pieces are manufactured in Berlin and Munich. In addition, in true Süper fashion, there are other things: glass works by the designer Laurence Brabant and porcelain by the Japanese designers Oji Masanori and Rina Ono. So whether it’s objects on your hands or in your hands – S+ is not just about adding physical space to the Süper online store, it extends the concept towards a dialogue between things – and in the future, other designers and artists from around the world. Now that’s a plus.

EN ROUTE: AXEL ARIGATO’S MUSIC TRUCK MAKES A STOP AT RAW-GELÄNDE

EN ROUTE: AXEL ARIGATO’S MUSIC TRUCK MAKES A STOP AT RAW-GELÄNDE

Fashion and music – that’s a match made in heaven. The two inspire each other and are twice as fun when they’re combined. What would a concert be without the eye-catching stage looks, what would a fashion show be without the fitting soundtrack – and what would your night out be without the carefully chosen outfit? Exactly! The creators of the brand Axel Arigato, founded in Sweden, also love music and, in general, creating experiences. They see their brand, founded in 2014, as a stage and have made it big – not only through Instagram and a store in London – but also a festival back in Copenhagen. If a truck with great sounds were to pull up on the RAW-Gelände, let’s say – it could be one of those moments: one to be remembered. Not only because the truck is yellow, in keeping with Axel Arigato’s style and – to match what marked the brand’s success – looks like a shoebox. It’s also because the lineup is curated by Berlin’s hyped music and broadcasting community, Hör. As a result, the lineup is fresh: among others, Lily Ackerman, Cecilia Tosh (Kotti Island) and Tommy Holohan, known for her heavy tech house, will be on the decks. In other words, Saturday won’t just be hot hot hot in terms of the weather, but also because the RAW-Gelände will briefly be transformed into an open-air party. It might just be one of those unforgettable Berlin moments that not only looks and sounds good, but is simply unique.

SUNDOWNER ON FRIDAYS: DRINKS, MUSIC & WEEKEND VIBES AT CEE CEE CAFE

SUNDOWNER ON FRIDAYS: DRINKS, MUSIC & WEEKEND VIBES AT CEE CEE CAFE

How about winding down the week on a quiet corner, with relaxing vibes and a refreshing beverage of your choice? If that’s your idea of the perfect Friday night too, come on by, because from now on Fridays are Aperitivo Time at Cee Cee Cafe. Maybe you’ve heard: We’ve opened a pop-up cafe, around for the next few months somewhere between Checkpoint Charlie and the Jewish Museum. It’s not on your route home exactly, but it’s a wonderfully tranquil and sunny corner right in the middle of it all. Our barista team serves specialty coffee and matcha from Matchasome during the day, and bubbly, sparkling and chilled beverages in the evening. With and without – that is to say: recently non-alcoholic drinks from the Mindful Drinking Club complement the selection when the aperitivo o’clock starts. So best come right at 17h – music is provided. Small snacks for before (or after) dinner are also available. So, all that’s missing for the best balmy summer evening is you.

HOW DO YOU FILL THE VOID? FERDINAND DÖLBERG AT ANTON JANIZEWSKI

HOW DO YOU FILL THE VOID? FERDINAND DÖLBERG AT ANTON JANIZEWSKI

What is left when someone has gone? In his exhibition at Anton Janizewski, artist Ferdinand Dölberg, born in Eisenach in 1998, searches for images for the gap left by the death of a loved one. After his father died, the abstract theme of grief became a reality for Dölberg. In the elegant gallery space, he has now placed larger-than-life paintings of a mourning community on the walls, surrounding the viewers. Each portrait shows a guest carrying an object in his or her hands – sometimes it’s an umbrella, sometimes a bouquet of flowers. Sometimes, too, the mourners hold more absurd mementos, such as a heat lamp or a handcart. Dölberg demonstrates in simple gestures how we remember. By allowing the funeral procession to exist in all its surreality, he proves that even the most seemingly mundane mementos matter.

On each painting, Dölberg has also placed a small, blank piece of paper. Does the piece of paper represent the vacuum that remains forever? For everything that could not be said – not even in a suicide note? He leaves this open to interpretation and links the image of the gap to the main work of the show as well. At first glance, Dölberg’s work “Am Ende die Leerstelle” seems like an abstract painting. Only upon closer inspection does it become apparent that, like a sliding puzzle, it consists of eleven variable pieces and an empty space. The audience can move the pieces freely and thus assemble a resting figure: the person commemorated by the mourners. In this show, Dölberg impressively portrays how individual remembrance can be, how playful it can be. Without saccharine sentimentality, he shows that the loss of another leaves a void that can no longer be filled with life – but rather with memories.
