BERNSTEINSEE: WHERE MITTE MEETS TO TAKE A DIP

BERNSTEINSEE: WHERE MITTE MEETS TO TAKE A DIP

This feature appears in Cee Cee Book No.2, published by Distanz.

Berlin is surrounded by countless lakes: over 3,000 to be precise. There’s always hype around the best lake each summer, so it’s no wonder you see half your neighborhood when you come to take a dip at your chosen spot. Of course, people like us writing about it doesn’t help. But you gotta spread the love, right? Bernsteinsee is no longer much of a secret, but it offers a delightfully relaxed alternative to the busy inner-city bathing spots. Where you want to go is the south side of the lake. Park your car on the road and walk through a beautiful pine forest for 20 minutes before reaching the lake on its less developed “wild side.” It’s one of those rare lakes with a large white sandy beach, and with plenty of space to spread your towels and bathe in the sun it’s perfect for big groups and families. For now this is my favorite lake in Brandenburg, until the next secret spot is discovered… (Text: Sven Hausherr / Photos: Nina Trippel)

SCHLOSS ARENDSEE: THE ENCHANTED 12–BED RETREAT FOR YOUR NEXT GROUP GETAWAY

SCHLOSS ARENDSEE: THE ENCHANTED 12–BED RETREAT FOR YOUR NEXT GROUP GETAWAY

Always dreamt of living in a real–life castle? Whether for a team-building trip or a big birthday or wedding, Schloss Arendsee offers you a wonderful setting. This country house was built in 1843 and sits in the Uckermark region of Brandenburg, only two hours by car from Berlin. Arriving there, the Cee Cee team were astounded: huge halls, a grand piano, bedrooms for up to 22 guests and even a retro school gymnasium next door. It’s the perfect place to let off steam, whether by exploring the countless rooms, lounging in the antique armchairs, boating on the lake or balancing on the SUP board. And if the 205,000 m² grounds aren’t enough for you, your friendly hosts will point you to surrounding lakes and forests, or indeed the alpaca farm around the corner. In the evening you can make yourself comfortable in the library, use the pool table and cook up a big meal in the kitchen…or take it to the wood-fired barbecue outside. We’re already planning our return so we can feel like 19th century lords and ladies again. (Text: Katie Burton / Photos: Schloss Arendsee & Cee Cee Creative)

COFFEE, COWORKING AND COMMUNITY AT THE VOLKSWAGEN WE SPACE UNTER DEN LINDEN

COFFEE, COWORKING AND COMMUNITY AT THE VOLKSWAGEN WE SPACE UNTER DEN LINDEN

Stuck in Mitte with no battery, patchy wifi and a looming work deadline? Keep cool and head right for the Volkswagen We Space. Connected to the VW Forum around the corner on Unter den Linden, this hub is the perfect place to recharge your devices – and yourself. Have a seat at one of the armchairs, or grab a spot at the benches. You’re free to connect your devices to the plentiful outlets and there’s even inhouse tablets for you to use. As this is more of a hub than a café, you can stay for hours without judgement from anyone – no purchase is required. But if you do need a caffeine boost or sweet snack, the in-house Portugese café offers fresh brews and snacks including delicious pastel de nata. True to its name, the Volkswagen We Space is meant for meeting people, be it for co-working, co-creating or just catching up. And when you are ready to leave and need a ride across town, there is bound to be an electric car nearby from VW’s We Share platform ready to hop into. KANULIEBE: SUMMER VIBES ON THE INSEL DER JUGEND — RECOMMENDED BY SOPHIA HUMMLER

KANULIEBE: SUMMER VIBES ON THE INSEL DER JUGEND — RECOMMENDED BY SOPHIA HUMMLER

The Kanuliebe boat rental shop could not have chosen a more beautiful location: the Insel der Jugend. Amongst shimmering water, boats and a beer garden, the summertime atmosphere is strong here. Kanuliebe rents the most chic pedal boats I have ever seen, with originals dating from the 60s and 70s. We got the “Penguin”, a sleek black beauty unsurpassed in its style and elegance, despite the odd squeak. For an hour we sailed around the Spree and saw the city from a new side. You see the small, charming houseboats tucked away on the banks, and from the water you can get a glimpse at the ferris wheel in the abandoned GDR amusement park Spreepark Berlin. Shortly before sunset we brought Penguin safely back to the jetty and ended the evening with a cool pint in the neighbouring beer garden. If you are looking for a little more action than relaxation on the water, Kanuliebe rents out canoes, kayaks and SUP boards in addition to pedalos. DEEP WEB AT KRAFTWERK BERLIN: A LIGHT AND SOUND EXPERIENCE IN MITTE’S INDUSTRIAL CATHEDRAL

DEEP WEB AT KRAFTWERK BERLIN: A LIGHT AND SOUND EXPERIENCE IN MITTE’S INDUSTRIAL CATHEDRAL

175 motor-driven spheres, 12 high-performance lasers and crystal-clear sound – this is “Deep Web” in the legendary halls of Kraftwerk Berlin (since 2007 also the home of Tresor). But the joint exhibition by lighting artist Christopher Bauder and composer Robert Henke is much more than just a technological masterpiece. Bauder, who as director of Whitevoidalready enthused with “Skalar” last year, has created an immersive work of art within the impressive architectural backdrop of the former power station, and you have to experience it yourself in order to understand the impact. The spheres seem to float in the air, changing direction, rhythm and tempo during the half-hour performance. Accompanied by Henke’s dark soundscapes, an artificial organism seems to be brought to life that at times recalls “Blade Runner”. And, with the current record breaking heat, the power plant is also probably the best place to cool off: so find a place directly under the installation, grab a beer and dive into a world beyond time and space. But act fast: Tickets for the one-hour live performances of the two shows next week are selling out! (Text: Hanna Komornitzyk / Photos: Benji Haughton & Kraftwerk Berlin)

Two of our readers have the opportunity to attend the live performance on Thursday 08.08. Just send us an email with your Instagram profile to win@ceecee.cc
