MIND, BODY, STOMACH: HOLISTIC HEALTH WITH EAT & TREAT

MIND, BODY, STOMACH: HOLISTIC HEALTH WITH EAT & TREAT

Since 2016, trained sports science therapist and passionate chef Gianna Thiess has been helping Berliners find their flow with her holistic three-part concept, Eat & Treat. Comprising weekly Pilates classes held in Olivia Steele’s Mitte studio, personal training sessions, vegetarian catering and supper club pop-ups around the city, Eat & Treat is dedicated to helping you feel your best, inside and out. Gianna’s dishes centre around fresh and seasonal and plant-based ingredients which embrace simplicity without compromising on flavor and texture, like the creamy pumpkin polenta with roasted beetroot, topped off with toasted pumpkin seeds and crumbled goat’s cheese. Your next chance to taste her culinary offerings is on 17.3.2018, when she’ll co-host “Platfrm”: A five-course vegetarian dining experience concepted together with Ostudio‘s Siobhán O’Callaghan. MDC CURE — EXQUISITE COSMETIC TREATMENTS TAILORED TO YOU

MDC CURE — EXQUISITE COSMETIC TREATMENTS TAILORED TO YOU

Melanie dal Canton of MDC Cosmetic has been supplying Berliners with the finest skincare and beauty products since 2012. The increasing demand for a wider, more personalized range of cosmetic treatments amongst her customer base led her to open MDC Cure in late 2017: A space for skincare and holistic wellness treatments to nourish the skin and body from head to toe. Located a mere few steps away from the store, MDC Cure was fitted out by architects AAS Gonzalez Haase. A minimal, pink-toned interior centres around a custom-designed geometric mirror, which transforms the souterrain into a feel-good oasis. I was welcomed with a glass of herbal tea before reclining on a heated treatment chair and submitting to the expertise of my therapist, who struck an ideal balance between warmth and professionalism. The microdermabrasion and ultrasound facial that followed left my skin feeling smooth, supple and deeply nourished. I’m already plotting my return, this time for one of the product-specific treatments — like the therapeutic massage with Tuscan herbs à la Santa Maria Novella (as the exclusive German stockist) or a Susanne Kaufmann facial. All treatments can be mixed, matched and personalized to ensure you glow as beautifully as MDC Cure’s blushing pink interior. (Text: Anna Dorothea Ker / Photos: MDC Cure)

THE REED — A NEW CULTURAL SPACE FOR DINING, COMMUNITY AND CREATIVITY

THE REED — A NEW CULTURAL SPACE FOR DINING, COMMUNITY AND CREATIVITY

From the institution that’s been keeping Berliners toned and motivated since 2016 comes a brand new space dedicated to community, music and art and food — comprising a restaurant, deli and bar. Following the recent launch of John Reed Women’s ClubsJohn Reed Fitness Music Clubs has ventured into the lifestyle realm with a manifestation of the brand’s heart and soul: The Reed. The space opened on 2.2.2018 with A$AP Rocky gracing the stage in front of a 20m curved LED wall. This unique digital platform will see emerging and established musicians and visual artists show their works in a program of events, including restaurant and bar nights. The Reed is open to all by day, with its kitchens preparing fresh food from dawn to dusk. Designed with health and sustainability in mind, menus include a range of low carb, paleo and vegan options — like baked sweet potato with fresh greens, hummus and avocado cream. Should a toast be in order, the modern take on the classic Champagne bar offers fresh fruit cocktails and homemade lemonade alongside several varieties of sparkling wine. Keep that in mind next time you’re planning a leisurely Sunday brunch amongst friends, by the way — bottomless Prosecco and coffee accompany a brunch buffet for a flat rate from 10-16h on Sundays. Check the program for updates on that, and much more. (Text: Anna Dorothea Ker / Photos: The Reed)

WORK OUT HARD, RELAX IN STYLE: JOHN REED WOMEN’S CLUBS

WORK OUT HARD, RELAX IN STYLE: JOHN REED WOMEN’S CLUBS

When it comes to training motivation, a considered, mood-focussed atmosphere makes all the difference. Since their 2016 launch in Berlin, John Reed Fitness Music Clubs have been putting this principle into effect, with their design-focussed interiors supplemented with twice-weekly live DJs and their own radio station. Now they’re upping their game for the fairer sex with John Reed Women’s Clubs in Prenzlauer Berg and Mitte. In addition to a wide range of group workouts with trainers, a cardio and weights area, there’ll be a health bar and relaxation lounge, childcare and — in Prenzlauer Berg — a wellness centre comprising a sauna and rooftop whirlpools on offer. This branch’s open house kicks off this weekend (20-21.1.2018) and you’re invited. Expect free Nike Training Club Sessions, yoga workshops, live DJs and a beauty lounge, and snacks and drinks to replenish your energy. Not only do all membership registrations before the 31.1 receive three months’ fee-free training but we’re also giving two readers the chance to win three month passes to the clubs. Tell us what drives you to push harder to be in to win. WALKING TOURS AT TEMPELHOF: SEE IT LIKE NEVER BEFORE

WALKING TOURS AT TEMPELHOF: SEE IT LIKE NEVER BEFORE

A picnic or sunset bike ride at Tempelhofer Feld, the beloved park in Neukölln, is only part of the full experience at this historic Berlin landmark. Perhaps context and access to the untouched parts of the gigantic building that is Flughafen Tempelhof will only serve to deepen your appreciation for this unique place, at least that’s the effect it had on me. From its original construction in 1927 to its oversized reconstruction by the Nazi government in the mid-1930s, the walking tours offered at Tempelhof aren’t excessively educational, they strike the right balance. Touring the grounds, it’s amazing to see just how huge the building itself is and viewpoints on the apron, roof and in the main terminal showcase this impression. Details of the design, left nearly untouched from the 1950s-70s, provide retro inspiration for those interested in typography and architecture. Next time you’re taking a self-guided tour of Tempelhofer Feld by bike or foot, remember — there’s still so much you haven’t seen. (Text: Devan Grimsrud / Photos: Luke Marshall Johnson)
