DISCOVER FRESH TALENTS: UDK BERLIN RUNDGANG FOR A BEHIND-THE-SCENES LOOK AT DESIGN, ART AND DANCE

DISCOVER FRESH TALENTS: UDK BERLIN RUNDGANG FOR A BEHIND-THE-SCENES LOOK AT DESIGN, ART AND DANCE

This weekend (23-24.07.2022) is all about the arts and looking and listening across borders. Yes: it’s time for the UdK Berlin Rundgang! The four faculties of the Universität der Künste Berlin – Fine Arts, Design, Music and Performing Arts – and the Inter-University Center for Dance, the Jazz Institute Berlin and the Berlin Career College will open their doors for a two-day sneak peek. Take a “fashion walk” at the Institute for Experimental Clothing and Textile Design, explore semester projects and excerpts of final projects by aspiring visual artists, costume designers and dancers, or drop in to observe open rehearsals of the performing arts classes. And when else will you have the chance to partake in a conducting workshop led by Harry Curtis? If you’re struck by creative inspiration after encountering the up-and-coming talents, you’ll also be able to check out everything you need to know about studying at the UdK Berlin yourself. And as is customary in the arts after a successful performance, you can end the evening with music and dance – this time at the Café Joseph garden. This year, there will also be a preview of the weekend’s events on Friday (22.07.2022) at various UdK departments. You’ll need to register in advance for the preview, but no registration for the weekend is necessary.

SUMMER DRESSES, VINTAGE VASES & NEW FRAGRANCES — THREE POP-UPS FOR THE WEEKEND

SUMMER DRESSES, VINTAGE VASES & NEW FRAGRANCES — THREE POP-UPS FOR THE WEEKEND

In case you haven’t noticed, we can’t get enough of pop-ups. Allow us to present three more, offering everything from Portuguese summer fashion and extravagant cups to Cypriot jewelry and personalized fragrances. First up is the Reality Studio pop-up, which opens today (21.07.2022) at the Wolfen store in Mitte. There you’ll find a summer collection featuring cooling linen that transports you to Portugal – the location, incidentally, of the label’s headquarters and production. Looking for smart glasses to serve up summer drinks? Then be sure to stop by the Still Life Design pop-up, where you will find vases and vintage glasses that are usually only available online. The pop-up runs today, Friday and Saturday in jewelry label Sister’s shop in Schillerkiez. In addition to design objects, there is also handmade jewelry from Cyprus to try and buy. Finally, it’s time to get fragrant with the likes of “The Dreamer”, “The Lover”, “The Thinker” and “The Traveler”. These perfumes will be available to test and buy next Wednesday (27.07.) at the Apotheke pop-up at Hallesches Haus. Here, Apotheke’s founder will be on hand to treat early bird shoppers to a small perfume and a glass of champagne on the house.

TASTY COMBINATIONS HOSTED BY MONKEY 47 X CEE CEE — PANEL TALK WITH BILLY WAGNER FROM NOBELHART & SCHMUTZIG

If your knowledge of food and drink pairing is limited to chablis and cheese, you might want to get some pro insights before hosting your next dinner party. Luckily we’ve lined up just such an expert – a Michelin-starred one, no less. Next Wednesday (20.07.2022) the Cee Cee team will be sitting down with Billy Wagner from Nobelhart & Schmutzig for our special panel talk, Tasty Combinations hosted by Monkey 47 x Cee Cee, giving you insider knowledge on perfect gastronomic pairings. Join us at 19h30 in Kreuzberg where the co-founder of Berlin’s farm-to-fork dining institution will explain his team’s philosophy when it comes to liquid accompaniments. The event is being held at the Zum Wilden Affen, a month-long pop-up from Monkey 47, which from tomorrow (15.07) will be hosting a program of workshops, concerts and talks in cooperation with the Schwarzwald gin brand. The motto: everything you wanted to know about gin, but never dared to ask. We look forward to seeing you next Wednesday on Oranienstraße 183 for some juniper-based discoveries. TWO-DAY SHOWCASE OF UKRAINIAN DESIGN EXCELLENCE — SKRYNYA CHARITY POP-UP EVENT IN GRUNEWALD

TWO-DAY SHOWCASE OF UKRAINIAN DESIGN EXCELLENCE — SKRYNYA CHARITY POP-UP EVENT IN GRUNEWALD

It’s time to unlock the treasure chest – or, as it’s called in Ukrainian, the Skrynya. This particular box of jewels is actually a pop-up market which is welcoming Ukrainian fashion, decor and jewelry brands to the European Academy Berlin this weekend (16. & 17.07.2022). Held in the EAB’s lush gardens in Grunewald, the two-day gathering supported by Zalando is a chance to browse and buy the likes of party-ready dresses from T.Mosca, “wearable art” from Overall and poppy printed shirts from Rcr Khomenko. Besides fashion, you’ll also find ceramics and jewelry from Gunia Project and candles from Thirteen. You can get creative yourself too with Ukrainian-inspired workshops on wreath weaving, traditional petrykivka painting and upcycling. Also in the line-up is a talk with Spend with Ukraine, an organization that supports creative and tech industries in Ukraine by promoting their products around the world. This celebration of Ukrainian design excellence will be accompanied by DJs (Rina KatenSergio), and artworks from Anna Voda and Irina Bizot. If all the browsing and looking leaves you hungry, you can pick up a bite from Ukrainian-German restaurant Marone, drinks from Space Meduza Bar and cakes from Kharkiv-born baker Snezhana. Ten percent of proceeds from the event will be spent on medical aid to Ukraine – just another reason to seek out this treasure chest out west.

FORECAST FORUM: PREVIEW CREATIVE PROJECTS THAT TRANSCEND TRADITIONAL BOUNDARIES

FORECAST FORUM: PREVIEW CREATIVE PROJECTS THAT TRANSCEND TRADITIONAL BOUNDARIES

Traditional theater and classic comedy are nowhere to be found at Forecast Forum, for this is a cultural gathering that does things a little differently. The three-day live event at Radialsystem (15–17.07.2022) will present song projects, stand-up sets and video works which are all about transcending artistic boundaries. A total of 18 creatives will be giving a taste of their work, like director Siu Hei Chung, whose “Quick Sketches about Hong Kong” plans to bring the latest news and journalism onto the theater stage. Or there’s “Life Is Too Short to Be Straight”, a planned stand-up show from comic writer Jo Güstin that turns ideas on grief, mortality and anxiety into a “dead serious comedy special”. Film is also represented in the form of Constantin Jopeck’s “The Way of the Snake”, a proposed documentary which will hear from herpetologists and snake catchers about the biology of this serpent species.

But these artists aren’t just there to preview their work. They are candidates in competition: at the end of the event, one of the three nominees in each of the six categories will be selected by their mentor to collaborate to make the project happen. Time to abandon conventional confines and get a taste of some pioneering and promising projects. And who knows: with a bit of luck your favorite might just become reality…
