PANEL TALK, RAFFLE AND GIN: SHAPING TOMORROW WITH CERAMIC ARTIST JÉRÉMY BELLINA FROM MONKEY 47 X CEE CEE

PANEL TALK, RAFFLE AND GIN: SHAPING TOMORROW WITH CERAMIC ARTIST JÉRÉMY BELLINA FROM MONKEY 47 X CEE CEE

Jérémy Bellina, Frenchman by birth and Berliner by choice, is the current darling of the ceramic world. He came to Berlin almost five years ago for love and has since swapped his job in management for pottery. Learn how a hobby evolved into a new profession and a studio in Berlin, why modeling with clay continues to inspire Bellina and how he uses it to engage with his 80,000 fans on Instagram. You can discover this and more at the Monkey 47 x Cee Cee event “Shaping Tomorrow” next Wednesday (03.08.2022). Monkey 47 and Cee Cee will host the evening’s panel talk with the artist at Zum Wilden Affen in the heart of Kreuzberg. Starting at 20h you’ll have the chance to listen to our conversation – chilled drinks and nice ambiance included. Kate from the Cee Cee Content Team will lead the discussion and take your questions on design philosophy, the form and function of Bellina’s works, clay hacks and success strategies. Look forward to an evening talking about the artist’s modern, playful and simply beautiful ceramic pieces and new ideas with a cold gin on the rocks. FYI: there will be more workshops, concerts and talks in cooperation with Monkey 47 at the Wilden Affen until 11.08.2022.

STORMING THE IVORY TOWER — BREAKING DOWN MUSICAL BARRIERS AT A L’ARME FESTIVAL

STORMING THE IVORY TOWER — BREAKING DOWN MUSICAL BARRIERS AT A L’ARME FESTIVAL

Berlin is the capital of improvisation in many fields. From 10-13.08.2022, that will also include music with the tenth edition of A L’Arme Festival at Radialsystem and Silent Green. Known for its broad range of genres, ranging from avant-garde jazz to improvisation, collaboration and other varieties of experimental music, the festival for “everything but the status quo and false certainties” will fill four evenings, some of them late into the night. Part of the program will include international premieres such as “Jazz Codes” by U.S. singer Moor Mother, or that of drummer Katharina Ernst and her band collective Ventil. Exploring and redefining the boundaries of genre is part of the event’s tradition, and true to form this year’s program ranges from poetic, bizarre sounds from everyday life and electronics by the great Claire Rousay to a revival of the album “Blackjazz” by the Norwegian avant-garde metal band Shining. Their album was one of the founding inspirations behind the festival, and it’s a work that punctuates this ten-year anniversary celebration. Music becomes art and art becomes music with the installation “Static Arrival” by New Yorker duo Nick Dunston and Alex Schweder, who combine sounds, light and fog to gently usher in the evenings. You can satisfy your desire to discuss the diverse program in the Anniversary Lounge before the concerts, fueled by a glass of low intervention, biodynamic wine.

FARM-TO-FORK FOOD FROM TOP CHEFS — SIX-COURSE DINNER FROM MEROLD AND NANUM AT THE ACKERPULCO ORGANIC FARM

FARM-TO-FORK FOOD FROM TOP CHEFS — SIX-COURSE DINNER FROM MEROLD AND NANUM AT THE ACKERPULCO ORGANIC FARM

An alfresco dinner in Acapulco – the ultimate tropical dream, right? But don’t book flights to the Pacific coast just yet, because this getaway is less far-flung than you might think. The Ackerpulco we’re talking about is in Brandenburg, among the arable fields of Alt-Madlitz. For one weekend only (05 & 06.08.2022), the organic vegetable farm will serve as the location for a six-course dinner co-hosted by the fine dining fermenters at Merold and Korean restaurant Nanum. The restaurants’ founders, Jonas Merold and Jinok Kim-Eicken, are teaming up to serve a vegan menu on a dining table right in the middle of a Brandenburg pasture. Three dishes are from Jonas, three are from Jinok – all can be paired with wine if you want. Expect fresh summer veg, fermented flavors and all-round culinary excellence. Also: while you are there, you can add on a visit to another organic farm, the neighboring Gut&Bösel, where the team offer tours of their advanced cultivation methods. It is here that Merold is hosting a few other dinner pop-ups, including tomorrow and Saturday (29 & 30.07.2022). Check the website for more details and bag yourself a ticket for a tasty farm-to-fork escape.

INNOVATIVE COMPOSERS AND WORLD CLASS MUSICIANS: A THREE-WEEK PROGRAM OF CONCERTS AT MUSIKFEST BERLIN

INNOVATIVE COMPOSERS AND WORLD CLASS MUSICIANS: A THREE-WEEK PROGRAM OF CONCERTS AT MUSIKFEST BERLIN

“Your friendly neighborhood new music string quartet” – that is how the JACK Quartet from New York describe themselves. But despite the quaint moniker, the youthful foursome have been taking their cellos and violins far beyond their U.S. hometown. This September, it’s Berlin’s turn to host: the Philharmonie’s Chamber Music Hall will be welcoming JACK for a performance of modern works that includes “Tetras” by Iannis Xenakis, who, besides composing music, worked as an architect under Le Corbusier. The show is part of Musikfest Berlin (27.08–19.09.2022), a three-week program of music organized by the Berliner Festspiele and the Stiftung Berliner Philharmoniker that will bring top orchestras from around the world to the city’s concert venues. Highlights will include a Berlin comeback by Sir Simon Rattle, who will be conducting the London Symphony Orchestra for a concert of dance-inspired works.

The names in the program leave little doubt as to the quality of the music, with Amsterdam’s Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra and The Philadelphia Orchestra among the groups to perform. Led by Canadian conductor Yannick Nézet-Séguin, Philadelphia’s finest musicians will celebrate the works of composer Florence Price, the first African-American woman to have a composition played by a major orchestra. The program ends with an epic tribute to another important African-American musician: Charles Mingus, whose works will be played in a two-and-a-half hour concert by the Deutsche Oper Berlin BigBand. It’s a fitting finale to a festival that showcases musical excellence in all its forms.
