DINER VIBES, WINE GARDEN SPECIALS & LINGERING FOG — CC’S WEEKEND TIPS

DINER VIBES, WINE GARDEN SPECIALS & LINGERING FOG — CC’S WEEKEND TIPS

We’ve survived the first days of October, and now it’s time for the first (long) weekend of the month. It’s kicking off just as packed as the last, from new culinary hotspots and pop-ups to art and wine in the garden. Tonight (02.10.2025), Goldies Bar opens on the sixth floor of KaDeWe. The team behind the legendary Smashburgers brings American diner culture to the equally legendary food floor. The menu features classics like the aforementioned Smashburgers and Super Skinny Fries, but new highlights are also making their way to tables with appetizers like Buffalo Wings in brown butter with ranch dip, deviled eggs with trout caviar, and sandwiches like Tuna Melt or Chicken Salad BLT. Drinks come with a low-ABV twist, meaning less alcohol and fewer hangovers. If you’re looking for new autumn and winter staples, go a few streets over, in Mitte. From Oct 2–5, Velour Garments presents its second pop-up on Linienstraße. The designs show how craftsmanship, sustainability, and timeless style come together. From tomorrow (03.–05.10.), wine bar Sway celebrates its third birthday! Naturally, there’ll be plenty of wine, music, and cozy living-room vibes. And when a place offers Minimisu (mini tiramisu), five-euro grilled cheese, and Negronis, I don’t need much more to be convinced.

If you feel like venturing further, on Saturday (04.10.), head to Reinickendorf. Nature’s Calling is hosting a wine garden special with croquettes from Kroque Berlin, a drum concert by Oran Ray, a DJ set from Mimosa Series, and of course, their own house wine. Finally, a tip that isn’t just for this weekend but might be a good reminder not to keep putting things off: if you thought you’d missed Fujiko Nakaya’s poetic fog sculpture in the sculpture garden of the Neue Nationalgalerie, rest easy. Thanks to a donation, the sculpture has been extended until the end of October and will also be on display next summer. And maybe I should correct myself here… even if you don’t make it to every single event in the city this weekend, the next one is just around the corner, and it won’t be any less diverse. TASTE COFFEE, LEARN MATCHA RITUALS, SHOP CERAMICS — THE COFFEE FESTIVAL BERLIN

TASTE COFFEE, LEARN MATCHA RITUALS, SHOP CERAMICS — THE COFFEE FESTIVAL BERLIN

We all know how to make coffee, but what’s the story behind the beans that end up in your cup every morning? The Coffee Festival Berlin (27.09–27.09.2025) asks this and many other questions, and spends two days focusing on coffee, its culture, and the lifestyle that goes with it. Roasters have traveled from far away, or come from your neighborhood. They’re traveling from Vilnius, Amsterdam, Copenhagen, Cologne, and Munich to get us excited about their beans. They’ll be standing alongside well-known Berlin names such as Five Elephant, 19grams, Coffee Circle, Populus, and Nano — to name a few! Over 30 roasters are bringing their coffee and will be on-site so you can taste it and ask everything you’ve always wanted to know about coffee. And if that’s not enough, there will be several cuppings to sip and talk shop with the pros. The founders of Circle Coffee and Communal Coffee, among others, will be on stage talking about coffee prices and cultivation. So this is your chance to listen to the experts.

If you’re less interested in heated discussions and more interested in relaxing, Friday ends with the CWB Awards ceremony and casual mingling with free beer. Or come by on Saturday (27.09), grab a soft serve ice cream or a drink, stroll through the halls, and find your favorite bean. Or take it easy and create your own matcha ritual with Atelier Kyo and Oatly. Afterwards, check out the Cee Cee Cups and ceramics from Berlin’s favorite brands such as Berliner Grau, Peace out Paradise, Clayground Berlin, Good Clay Sunshine, and Marilyne Blais Studio — and go home not only with coffee beans, but also with your new favorite cup. To sweeten the deal, Leipzig brand Nucao will be there with its chocolate creations. SumUp is offering sessions for small business owners, and anyone who finds founder stories exciting should not miss the talk by Nicolas Hartmann, Managing Director and CEO of Vly. He will talk about his concept of “Food as Fuel”. And if you’ve had too much caffeine? Take a breather in the Urban Garden by Atelier Gardens and maybe win a prize on Saturday’s wheel of fortune.

A NIGHT OF FUTURE BEATS AND BASS: SWIM GOOD PARTY COLLECTIVE AT KANTINE AM BERGHAIN

If you like your dancefloors edgy, funky and choppy, mark this one in your club night calendar: collective Swim Good are hosting the next edition of their party series at Kantine am Berghain next Thursday (02.10.2025), headlined by Lausanne-based DJ and producer Santo. After soundtracking Cee Cee’s own Croissant Sessions in the courtyard of KW back in August, the Swim Good team is back with a til-late line-up featuring Santo alongside StimulusHelina and Steffoo. Genre-wise there will be plenty to keep you shuffling, with the collective’s bookings leaning towards rap, club, bass, future beats and bass. Grab your tickets here, assemble your gorlies and get ready to bring your bounciest footwork to Kantine.

ART, DESIGN, CITY ESCAPES — YOUR WEEKEND STARTS HERE

ART, DESIGN, CITY ESCAPES — YOUR WEEKEND STARTS HERE

The weekend is here, and with it, autumn, perhaps the most beautiful season in the city. When everything is possible, but nothing is a must. It’s clear we’ll be spending more time indoors in the coming months. If you’re looking for something nice for your home, head to the opening (25.09.) of the foldt pop-up store on Savignyplatz tonight. Starting at 19h, there will be new designs to discover, including at least one kitchen — gleaming, angular, wonderfully contemporary, and somehow nostalgically futuristic all at once. Visually, it’s worth the trip, but so is the culinary program: Ayami Awazuharawill provide Japanese snacks, and Nature is Calling will serve wine. If you’d rather wait until tomorrow for drinks and openings, C/O Berlin offers the perfect occasion. Its exhibition openings have been legendary for more than a decade. On Friday (26.09), Close Enough – Perspectives by Women Photographers of Magnum opens. The images alone make this an event not to miss.

Continue exploring the art scene on Saturday (27.09.) and catch the aftershocks of Art Week. Frank Hauschildt has curated a wonderfully intimate group exhibition at the Kunstverein am Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz, featuring artists connected to the location in one way or another. The works of Olga Hohmann, Thomas Kratz, and Heimo Zobernig’s tiger costume are absolute highlights. If that’s not enough, head to the Schinkel Pavilion for zeitgeisty works by Issy Wood. Prefer to get out of the city? At Umbio’s cider festival in Grünheide in the Uckermark, there’s not only cider and fresh-pressed juice but also wild bratwurst from the grill and a charming little farm shop. If you’ve always wanted to know which variety is growing in your allotment, bring your apples along, to be identified on the spot. In the evening, poets Rim Battal and Odile Kennel will meet at Ich mache mein Bett und ich salze mein Fleisch (I Make My Bed and I Salt My Meat) for a German-French reading exploring physicality, desire, and female writing. The evening is part of the closing event of the exhibition Breaking this Silence at the Institut Français, which presents artistic and activist contributions deconstructing myths and patriarchal narratives around endometriosis. Spend Sunday (28.09.) in bed with Mubi, or at Zeughaus Kino at 18h for a screening of the 1996 film “The Portrait of a Lady“, starring a captivating Nicole Kidman. And that’s a wrap for this weekend. But the next one will come soon. On Saturday (04.10), the next edition of the pop-up food & illustrationconcept takes place — art, cooking, and a little cake from Daun Daun and Kenn Lamm on Kollwitzstraße. Reservations can be made via DM, and places are in high demand.

IT’S GOING TO BE A MUBI FEST: THREE DAYS OF OUTSTANDING CINEMA AT SILENT GREEN

IT’S GOING TO BE A MUBI FEST: THREE DAYS OF OUTSTANDING CINEMA AT SILENT GREEN

We love Mubi! If you know our favorite streaming platform, you know it’s Mubi. This October, Berlin will host the first Mubi Fest. Regular readers of this newsletter will already be familiar with Mubi’s cultural program, especially its dedication to cinema and the big screen. Mubi Fest Berlin takes it one step further: three days for film favorites to make their return to the cinema. The program is diverse, but here’s what we’re looking forward to most: Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me, the neo-noir prequel to the cult series, shedding light on Laura Palmer’s final days. Essential for Lynch die-hards and fever-dream film fans. Not for the faint of heart is April, directed by Dea Kulumbegashvili. The film follows Nina, a gynecologist in rural Georgia, as she faces personal and professional challenges. A dark work that confronts the brutality of patriarchal order head-on. The film will be shown in its original language (Georgian) with subtitles, followed by a talk with the director. Less dark, but idiosyncratic, contradictory, beautiful, and always impeccably dressed are the Women’s Tales, an ongoing short film series by Miu Miu, launched in 2011, telling stories by and about women in the 21st century.

Mubi Fest will show two works from the series as a double feature: “Autobiografia Di Una Borsetta” by Joanna Hogg and “Fragments For Venus” by Alice Diop. Small films, big cinema. Storytelling also takes center stage at a panel hosted by Notebook, Mubi’s print and online magazine since 2007. Managing Editor Matt Turner and Design Manager Tom Lobo Brennan will discuss how film discourse can take shape, sharing insights into their processes, vision, and design. So whether it’s a well-told fashion film, a cult classic, or a deep dive into design discourse: Mubi Fest brings streaming back into real life, and us into Silent Green.
