DONATE WARMTH TO THE HOMELESS IN BERLIN THIS WINTER

DONATE WARMTH TO THE HOMELESS IN BERLIN THIS WINTER

Slowly but surely, I can feel the evil Berlin cold creeping in. A challenging time for the 4000 homeless living in Berlin. How can we help? Querstadtein is a project that organizes tours where homeless people show around their city all year long. This Saturday sees a special tour named “Kältetour” (tour of cold) and proceeds will go to the Berliner Kältebus, the bus that travels through the city offering help and warmth in cold weather. Although this particular tour is already fully booked, the Berliner Stadtmission informed us that they still need the following: warm blankets, mens clothing in normal sizes such as jackets, shoes, socks, underwear as well as scarves, hats… and hair clippers. They have enough sleeping bags. You can drop your items off during the week, but if you can’t travel to Moabit, simply send a text message saying “kalt” to 81190; 5 Euros will be added to your phone bill and 4,83 Euros will go directly to the Kältebus organization. (Text: Nina Trippel)

Berliner Stadtmission, Lehrter Str.68, 10557 Berlin-Moabit
Donation drop-off: Mon-Thu 8.30-16.30h, Fri 8.30-15.30h

FRESH APPLE AND FRUIT JUICES BY HAHN’S MOBILE MOSTQUETSCHE

FRESH APPLE AND FRUIT JUICES BY HAHN’S MOBILE MOSTQUETSCHE

Anyone who has fruit trees knows that a lot of fruit goes to waste each year. In case you or your family is guilty of this, get in touch with Hahn’s Mobile Mostquetsche, Berlin’s one and only mobile juice factory, run by Eva and Mario Hahn. Curious about how their service works? Next Tuesday (30.9.2014) their truck will be in action in Friedrichshain. Packaged juices will be on sale too, because the Hahns buy apples and other fruits from farmers and private owners. Their juices come in three or five liters and are available at various markets. Alternatively, simply order them at their online store Most per Post and get your single origin apple juices or blends with beetroots or rhubarb delivered. In summertime cherries and strawberries are pressed too. My personal favorite is the sweet-and-sour Jonagold apple juice and the refreshing blackberry-apple juice. (Text: Nina Trippel)

THE CEE CEE BERLIN BOOK WILL BE OUT SOON!

THE CEE CEE BERLIN BOOK WILL BE OUT SOON!

At the end of July we announced that we’d be back mid August. Sorry folks, our summer break lasted a little longer than expected. However, we weren’t leisurely laying on the beach; in fact, we were working our butts off on our first book. Throughout the past three-and-a-half years, many subscribers and followers of Cee Cee have asked us if we’re ever going to make a printed version of the newsletter. We’re proud to announce that the final file of the “Cee Cee Berlin” book was sent off to the printer yesterday! It will be available in September published by Distanz Verlag, and of course we’re planning a launch event – so stay tuned. And yes: we’ll Cee Cee you next week again! Promise.

XOXO

PROJECT FLUSSBAD: TAKE A DIP IN CLEAR SPREE RIVER WATER

PROJECT FLUSSBAD: TAKE A DIP IN CLEAR SPREE RIVER WATER

Berlin’s Spree River is a federal waterway, more or less, which can only mean one thing: it is loud and dirty. But it doesn’t have to be – in Switzerland and in other German cities, it is a tradition to swim in the city’s rivers during summer. Back in 1998, two architects, Jan and Tim Edler (realities:united), came up with the great idea of ecologically upgrading the Spree canal. Their idea is to transform the Spree into a 750-meter-long swimmable urban river, between Schlossplatz and Bodemuseum. The staircases at Lustgarten invite us to sit and linger. The biotope area and reed beds in the upper river region of the 1.6km watercourse ensure clean, natural river water. Turning their vision into reality – target year 2020 – calls for our commitment too. For instance there is the Verein Flussbad e.V. that awaits to be supported financially or by you taking action (more info here). Let’s make this happen! (Text: Milena Kalojanov)
