COZYMAZU — THE DELECTABLE TASTE OF TAIWAN IN WEDDING

COZYMAZU — THE DELECTABLE TASTE OF TAIWAN IN WEDDING

In an unassuming corner of Sprengelkiez lies the best-kept secret of this city’s tiny Taiwanese food scene. The light-flooded, incense-laced interior of Cozymazu — filled with latticed wood lanterns, traditional Taiwanese art and wicker chairs — invites you to escape into an inspired sensory experience. In designing her restaurant’s concept, owner and chef, Wei-En Chan drew upon her nostalgia for the diversity of Taiwanese food culture and her grandparents’ cooking — from scratch, organic, MSG-free. The resulting (veggie- and vegan-friendly) menu reinterprets Taiwanese street food and other classics. Like taro tapioca dumplings served with roasted shiitake mushrooms, coriander, crispy onions and a dark vinegar-garlic glaze. Or the recent addition of hearty bowls like the “Cha Pao Fan”: steamed rice in broth with matcha, salmon filet, edamame and lotus root. Come by on a weekend morning for brunch, accompanied by a variety of fine Oolong and other teas, served in a tiny set. Highlights of the set menu option include the homemade peanut milk, spiced tea eggs and hot steamed raw sugar cake. No detail goes unnoticed in the dishes’ preparation and presentation. As far as culinary ambassadors go, Wei-En is doing her homeland more than proud. (Text: Anna Dorothea Ker / Photos: Mina Aichhorn)

HAY FOR SONOS — CRISP SOUND IN A FRESH COLOR PALETTE

HAY FOR SONOS — CRISP SOUND IN A FRESH COLOR PALETTE

You don’t have to be a synesthete to embrace the connection between color and sound, though a little help from design experts doesn’t hurt. Sonos has teamed up with Danish design darlings Hay to launch a limited edition set of five Sonos One speakers in tones as rich as those coming out of them. The color options (Pale Yellow, Light Grey, Soft Pink, Forest Green and Vibrant Red), were selected from the Hay palette 2018, designed to add a jolt of eye-catching contrast to any room — and provide the seamless sound experience ensured by the Alexa-integrated Sonos One speaker. Test them out for yourself tonight at a launch celebration at Sonos Store Berlin, where local artists Quintessenz have created a custom installation that will be accompanied by NTS-curated “Sound of Color” mixes, as well as drinks and finger food — plus the chance to take your favorite color straight home with you. RSVP here. (Text: Anna Dorothea Ker / Photos: Sonos)

INDULGE YOUR GOURMET WANDERLUST WITH SALT & SILVER

INDULGE YOUR GOURMET WANDERLUST WITH SALT & SILVER

It’s around this time of year when wanderlust starts to set in — dreams of sandy beaches, crashing waves and exotic flavours playing on our minds. For a shot of travel and cooking inspiration without leaving the city, head to Google Pixel Studio this Saturday (10.11.) where amateur chefs and avid travellers-turned-restauranteurs, Salt & Silver (aka Jo and Cozy) will be telling the story of their year-long travels through Latin America, during which they shot documentary films and published surf-inspired cookbooks. Upon their return to Hamburg, they opened a (now two-part) Mexican-Peruvian restaurant to share the flavors and cooking techniques they picked up along the way. Berliners will be lucky enough to get a taste on Saturday, too — after a talk and cookbook presentation, they’ll reveal the secret to making their famous guacamole. Prepare for your mouth to water — and for your feet to itch. (Text: Anna Dorothea Ker / Photos: Google Pixel, Salt & Silver)

SWEDISH STYLE MEETS BERLIN COOL AT WEEKDAY’S NEW STORE

The thrill of a new season wardrobe stock-up is all the more exciting when experienced in a brand new, custom-fitted location — and the chance to see your next new item being created right in front of your eyes. Just yesterday (31.11.18), Swedish fashion brand Weekday opened the doors to its third Berlin store, which features its very own print studio where the latest designs will be printed on a weekly basis. Located in the just-opened East Side Mall near Warschauer Str., the 700m², split-level shop combines industrial flair with an urban chic feeling, creating a spacious, inspiring atmosphere in which to browse and try on favorite pieces. This weekend (2.-4.11.2018) presents the perfect opportunity to explore it all, with extended opening hours on Friday and Sunday, plus, on Saturday (3.11.2018), an opening celebration with DJs, drinks and discounts at all three Weekday Berlin stores — as well as the chance to win one of 25 pairs of jeans at each one. FREUNDSCHAFT — A NEXT-LEVEL WINE BAR FOR SIPPING IN STYLE

FREUNDSCHAFT — A NEXT-LEVEL WINE BAR FOR SIPPING IN STYLE

When a drinking occasion calls for expertise, service and a selection nothing short of excellent, may we point you in the direction of Freundschaft, the new(ish) venture of two Berlin wine oracles with Austrian roots — Willi Schlögl (formerly of Cordobar) und Johannes Schellhorn (ex-Nobelhart & Schmutzig) — in connection with the Grill Royal Group. As the bar’s name conveys, the idea is to serve top-notch wine in a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere — hence the no-reservations policy and the expansive 40-seat oval bar that invites you to take a seat and pore over the 500-position menu, presented in a sultry dark green tome. Better yet, ask for a recommendation: there’s a large selection of naturals, plus options by the glass (15 bottles are open). Don’t pass up an glass of “Dein Bester Freund” (“Your Best Friend”), a special 2L Doppler house edition bottle produced by with Weingut Tement in Südsteiermark. A rotating selection of simple small dishes created by Austrian-Vietnamese chef Stefanie La — pickled vegetables, beef tartare — ensures hunger, not only thirst, is kept at bay. Whether you come with a reason to celebrate or just stop by spontaneously for an indulgent after work tipple — this is a place in which friendship flourishes fast.(Text: Anna Dorothea Ker / Photos: Mina Aichhorn)
