TAUBE GRAU: HIGH CONCEPT CATERING FOR YOUR NEXT EVENT

TAUBE GRAU: HIGH CONCEPT CATERING FOR YOUR NEXT EVENT

If you’re looking to liven up your company event, wedding or gala dinner, catering agency Taube Grau provides a culinary experience to lick your lips to and talk about. This Neukölln-based crew creates sophisticated food concepts using regional and seasonal products, teaming up with local creatives – barkeepers, florists and photographers – to curate complete events. Founded back in 2014 by Laura Iriondo, who leads the kitchen team with co-owner Martin Wunstorf, Taube Grau has catered events for brands from Vice to Vogue. We discovered Taube Grau during a six-course dinner at KW’s Café Bravo which included a showstopping homemade ravioli covered in a rich butter sauce, intensely smoked over burning hay. And we had the chance to collaborate with the Taube Grau folks for our latest Cee Cee dinner – a stunning three-course menu including duck confit served with parsnips, pear chips and chestnuts. And with a new kitchen and showroom opening in December 2019, Taube Grau are the go-to team for food not easily forgotten. (Text: Ivor Helberg / Photos: Savannah van der Niet)

A 24-DECADE HISTORY OF POPULAR MUSIC — RETROSPECTIVE REALNESS AT TAYLOR MAC’S EXTRAVAGANZA

A 24-DECADE HISTORY OF POPULAR MUSIC — RETROSPECTIVE REALNESS AT TAYLOR MAC’S EXTRAVAGANZA

You haven’t experienced participatory theatre until you’ve been to Taylor Mac’s show “A 24-Decade History of Popular Music”. At the 2016 marathon performance of this queer retelling of American history, audience members were told to embrace their neighbors in a prom dance and reenact civil war battles by throwing around ping pong balls as Mac sashayed around the stage. As a co-creator of this “radical faerie realness ritual”, as Mac calls it, you’re taken well outside your comfort zone. Now, for the European premiere of the unabridged show as part of the Berliner Festspiele’s Immersion series, Berlin audiences are being put to the test. The show is based around 246 songs popular between 1776 and the present day, working them into a wild extravaganza that incorporates cabaret, stand-up, theatre and drag. This is a tale of America’s past that celebrates the misfits, featuring fierce outfits by Machine Dazzle and pop classics like “Oh, Pretty Woman” and “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road”. You’ll dance, sing and – most probably – cry. (Text: Benji Haughton / Photos: Eike Walkenhorst, Teddy Wolff, Little Fang Photography)

REFORM X VALERIE_OBJECTS: POP-UP SHOP DURING BERLIN DESIGN WEEK

REFORM X VALERIE_OBJECTS: POP-UP SHOP DURING BERLIN DESIGN WEEK

What is design? It’s a fundamental question, but for the Antwerp-based design label Valerie_Objects, the answer is simply “all things good and beautiful”. The brand was founded by Serax owner Axel Van Den Bossche and Valerie Traan Gallery owner Veerle Wenes as a way to give a platform for individual artists and creatives to design and sell their work. Fitting then that as part of Berlin Design Week, Valerie_Objects has teamed up with Danish kitchen experts Reform for a week-long collaboration. Reform, winners of the Danish Design Award, draws on contemporary design, interiors and architecture to challenge the idea of what kitchens should be. The colab pop-up at their Berlin-Mitte space will feature rare and sought-after design pieces curated from the Valerie_Objects collection, including examples of artist-designed cutlery, furniture, and home furnishings. So if you’re looking for good and beautiful things to upgrade your kitchen and beyond, this is the place to go. (Text: Emily Miotke / Photos: Reform, Andreas Omvik)

BERLIN PHOTO WEEK: CELEBRATING PHOTOGRAPHY AND LEARNING FROM THE MASTERS

BERLIN PHOTO WEEK: CELEBRATING PHOTOGRAPHY AND LEARNING FROM THE MASTERS

This week is the start of Berlin Photo Week (10.–13.10.2019), bringing together artists from across the globe to celebrate all things photography. Back for its second year, the festival is already staking its claim in the not-to-miss calendar. There will be events around the city, but the week centers around Kraftwerk Berlin, with three floors to explore. Highlights include The Funplace, with interactive installations to create your own photographs, and The Exhibition which includes works by renowned photographer Thomas Hoepker and Berghain’s Sven Marquardt. Meanwhile The Conferencefeatures two days of talks from industry experts. The week concludes with the presentation of the annual EyeEm Photo Awards, the biggest photography competition in the world with a party to match. If that’s not enough, there will be gallery openings, photo walks and workshops held around the city as well. Whether you’re an amateur photographer, a professional, or simply an admirer, it’s the perfect place to come across new images and the stories behind them. EDITION F & FEMALE FUTURE FORCE DAY: THE ONLINE COMMUNITY FOR WOMEN TAKES TO THE STAGE

Since 2014, the online magazine Edition F has inspired us with relatable journalism that gives women a broad platform and demonstrates that – as the founders put it – “feminism is something for everyone”. Edition F is able to deal with difficult topics in a lighthearted way, and has quickly established itself as an institution for women, not least through initiatives like the Female Future Force Day, where you can plan your professional future in workshops and lectures; the 25 Frauen Award, which honors women’s success in business; and the podcast Achterbahn featuring founders Susann Hoffmann and Nora-Vanessa Wohlert. Meanwhile, their new podcast “Alles Anders” features Lana Wittig talking to women in industry about the working environment. Community is a big part at Edition F. In addition to in-house articles, the readers themselves write on topics that inspire and move them. So if like us you are a fan of Edition F and would like to support this great platform, sign up for the newsletter and come to FFF Day on 12.10.2019, featuring exciting lectures, panels and master classes that focus on personal, professional and social development.
