THURSDAY NIGHT DRINKS AND (SWEET) BITES — PARS APERITIVO EVENINGS AT CUL DE SAC BAR

THURSDAY NIGHT DRINKS AND (SWEET) BITES — PARS APERITIVO EVENINGS AT CUL DE SAC BAR

The pralines from Pars are so beautiful you might not even realize they’re edible. But edible they are – and delicious too. At least that was my reaction when I first encountered these chocolates at a party back when Kristiane Kegelmann was getting her confectionery business off the ground. Since then Pars chocs can be found in KaDeWe’s legendary “Die Sechste” food hall and at a dedicated shop on Kreuzberg’s Schönleinstraße, establishing Kegelmann and her team as permanent fixtures on Berlin’s gastronomy scene. That’s especially true this summer, when along with friends, artists and the who’s who of the city’s bars and kitchens, Pars are inviting you to enjoy drinks and bites at the Cul de Sac bar. Running for eight Thursdays starting tonight (18.08.2022), the series will see the menu and partners change, but the collaborations, location and good vibes stay constant. Tonight Caique Tizzi will be bringing bites that, like the pralines, will be (almost) too beautiful to eat, with Sips taking care of the wine. In the weeks to come they’ll be joined by the likes of Nature’s CallingFish Klub, food writer Ursula Heinzelmannand sommelier Emilie Holdsworth from Frieda. You don’t need a reservation – just drop in from 17h for an Italian style aperitivo. Chin chin.

CLOSED-CIRCLE CREATIVITY — UPCYCLE YOUR OWN SHAWL AT BIKINI BERLIN

CLOSED-CIRCLE CREATIVITY — UPCYCLE YOUR OWN SHAWL AT BIKINI BERLIN

Picnic? Check. Sunscreen? Check. Swimsuit? Check. You’re good to go for some fun at the lake – just one more must-have remains: a nice cloth to stretch out on. This calls for a multifunction shawl for classy waterside moments, and what better designer to turn to than yourself. We’re telling you this because Bikini Berlin is giving you the chance to create your very own scarf-shawl-blanket out of recycled materials as part of this year’s summer special. Head to the concept shopping mall this August and look for the giant patchwork cloth hanging in the atrium. Circular fashion is the name of the game, hence why you are invited to create a 70x70cm cloth of your own using rescued textiles and stamps inspired by Bikini Berlin’s 1950s origins. For every shawl you make (they’re free!) you will be in with a chance to win an overnight stay for two at the neighboring 25hours Hotel. Another reason to get hands-on and up your lakeside fashion game this summer.

BLOCK PARTY FOR FASHION FANS: ROTHOLZ SUMMER STUDIO SALE WITH DRINKS AND MUSIC IN POTSDAM

BLOCK PARTY FOR FASHION FANS: ROTHOLZ SUMMER STUDIO SALE WITH DRINKS AND MUSIC IN POTSDAM

Time for a little getaway to Potsdam, where this Saturday you’ll find the Rotholz Studio Sale. This year it’s being styled as a “block party” with free beers from Brlo and Stiftung Hell, a falafel food truck, DJ sets and, of course, minimalist fair fashion pieces. You can get discounts on the current summer collection as well as the opportunity to grab last items and unreleased sample pieces at special prices. Since launching in 2008, the label has been all about conscious fashion and reduced Japanese-inspired design aesthetics that combine well with other items. The straight linen shirts, skirts, sweatshirts, jackets and caps are all made from climate-friendly materials and produced within the EU, with the organic merino wool knitwear produced in Germany. Winter isn’t a million miles away, so why not get that knitted sweater in preparation?

15 YEARS OF THE SCHINKEL PAVILLON — AN EVENING OF LIVE PERFORMANCES AND DJ SETS FROM DISAPPEARING BERLIN

15 YEARS OF THE SCHINKEL PAVILLON — AN EVENING OF LIVE PERFORMANCES AND DJ SETS FROM DISAPPEARING BERLIN

From the 70s concrete colossus that is the Postbank tower to the brutalist Bierpinsel, Disappearing Berlin has always commemorated landmark buildings due to be demolished, converted or deserted. But for its next performance-packed event this Saturday (06.08.2022), the art series will be returning to its home at the Schinkel Pavillon – a building which isn’t going anywhere. It’s a special occasion: 15 years have passed since architect Richard Paulick’s octagonal structure was reopened as a home for contemporary art and performance under the direction of artist-curator Nina Pohl. The birthday is being marked with “Bad Bitches Do Cry”, an all-evening program of music that celebrates Schinkel’s bold, experimental ethos. You are advised to bring a blanket and get comfortable for live “sonic explorations” by Berlin project Baal & Mortimer followed by sounds from interdisciplinary performer Richard Kennedy who will break down audience-stage boundaries alongside Tianna Strickland and Marlee Weinberg.

Artists Asma Maroof and Tapiwa Svosve will also take to the stage for a live performance, followed by bass heavy music from Dmitra and Soraya and a DJ set from Rinse.FM and The Lot Radio regular quest?onmarq. If you haven’t visited the Schinkel Pavillon in the past 15 years, now really is the time – its blend of Prussian classicism and flamboyant Soviet glitz is reason enough to spend an evening within its eight-sided walls.

HALF RETREAT, HALF RAVE — MINDFULNESS AND ECSTASY AT SACRED GROUND FESTIVAL

HALF RETREAT, HALF RAVE — MINDFULNESS AND ECSTASY AT SACRED GROUND FESTIVAL

If you love the close-to-nature feel of festivals but are less keen on the sleepless nights, next weekend’s Sacred Ground (11–14.08.2022) could be the one for you. Launched in 2015 by Australian singer RY X and Frank Wiedemann (who make up the duo Howling), the festival offers a mindful alternative to the big weekenders around Berlin. The aim was to do something sustainable: “We wanted to create an immersive retreat that would allow our community to dive into a world of magic, unwind from everyday life and create a place of sanctuary.” To this end, the festival supports small regional businesses and suppliers and avoids using plastic. The weekend is all about celebrating the sensual things in life: art, mindfulness, body-soul wellness and good food.

Musically, the program ranges from electronic music to indie and folk. Wiedemann (aka Âme)and RY X are playing the festival themselves, as are artists from Leipzig’s Institut für Zukunft like JakoJako, Neele, Perm and Peter Invasion. Other highlights include Peruvian singer and producer Sofia Kourtesis, Bulgarian producer Kink and Sebastian Mullaert. Held two hours from Berlin at Klingmühle in Brandenburg, Sacred Ground also includes an extensive mindfulness programme: breathwork sessions, yoga, meditation, creative workshops and tea ceremonies bring moments of peace and quiet as you move between the stages and the onsite lake.
