BLOOMAGE DAYDREAM — ECO-FRIENDLY SEASONAL BOUQUETS

BLOOMAGE DAYDREAM — ECO-FRIENDLY SEASONAL BOUQUETS

Flowers by bike – that’s the concept of Bloomage Daydream, founded in summer 2015. The idea was inspired by the David Bowie song “Moonage Daydream” and the concept is meant to be an alternative to the usual, environmentally questionable flower delivery services. At Bloomage Daydream, the flowers are all from regional flower growers, and as only two bouquet choices are offered per week, waste is minimised. These details are very important to Caroline Stephenson, who worked as an intern for a florist in London before starting her company in Berlin. Every Tuesday, Caroline gets up at around four in the morning to browse the different flower markets and select her handmade bouquets for the week. These are then available to order from her online shop for seven days, until they are replaced by her upcoming creations. So go online, enter your delivery address, select your bundle of blooms, and let a lovely bike delivery make your day – or someone else’s. (Text: Michaela Wölfel / Photo: Daniel Farò)

FROM WATER TO WEINZZ: BERLIN INSPIRED VEGAN SCHORLE

FROM WATER TO WEINZZ: BERLIN INSPIRED VEGAN SCHORLE

THE PERFECT PLACE TO HIDE AT HOTEL MICHELBERGER

THE PERFECT PLACE TO HIDE AT HOTEL MICHELBERGER

The constant whirl of city life can be overwhelming, and sometimes the need for escape is undeniable. With their new “Hideout” suites, family-run Michelberger Hotel seem to have taken the dream of a much-loved childhood den and made it a grown-up reality. As with pre-existing rooms, such as the split level space of “The Loft” and book-lined walls of “The Clever”, the Hideout suites reinforce Michelberger’s commitment to innovative architectural design. Created by Sigurd Larsen, a renowned Berlin-based architect responsible for furnishing the Voo store café amongst other projects, the suites play with space and simplicity: warm wooden panels slide open to reveal low, wide beds or sunken white bathtubs, and hidden doors cover the fully-equipped kitchen. Touches of luxury, such as the sleek steps of the sauna, the enormous space of the rain shower, or the independently crafted Wiener Wunderkind speakers, work to prevent the suites from feeling too rustic. Whilst the rooms are built for two, the extra bed can accommodate up to two children, and there’s no doubt that both younger and older guests alike will delight in the sense of magic that the Hideout suites create. A NEW COMPANION TO BRUNO TAUT’S HUFEISENSIEDLUNG

A NEW COMPANION TO BRUNO TAUT’S HUFEISENSIEDLUNG

Bruno Taut’s Hufeisensiedlung, literally translated as horse-shoe estate, is internationally recognized by architects, artists and tourists alike. Taut, responsible for building more than 10,000 apartments for Germany’s working class, was and is considered a genius of social housing. Now his work can be even better understood. Graphic designer Ben Buschfeld has taken the opportunity to create an architectural and artistic guide to Taut’s famous Hufeisensiedlung, filled not only with portraits and pictures, but also with fascinating insights from planners and inhabitants into the status quo of the housing estate. Now you can roam the premises marvelling at Taut’s fantastic use of colour while clutching a detailed guide, filled with previously unpublished photos and diagrams. The German book, entitled ‘Bruno Taut’s Hufeisensiedlung‘, published in 2015 by Nicolai Verlag, allows this landmark building to be intimately explored. For those who also wish to continue their journey, the next stop should surely be Taut’s home, the Tautes Heim, previously recommended in the guest post in Newsletter #88 from 2012. Happy wandering! COFFEE, CUISINE & CO-WORKING AT UNICORN.BERLIN

COFFEE, CUISINE & CO-WORKING AT UNICORN.BERLIN

Masoud Kamali set out to create something that he felt was missing in Berlin: an inspiring space for people to eat, meet and work together. Opened in August 2015 in Mitte’s old King Kong Klub, Unicorn.Berlin is a new co-working space that brings together what belongs together – healthy and delectable food, a focused atmosphere, and naturally the finest coffee. The concept behind it is simple; download the Unicorn.Berlin app, choose the date you want to work, and select one of 15 working spaces in the front and back of the building. Boasting culinary delights such as orange and lavender pudding, chia coconut granola and berry thyme cream cake, the integrated café focuses on plant-based products freshly prepared that day. Above and beyond the food, however, is the interior. Conceived by Laura Rave, who famously engineered the transformation of Cookies nightclub into Crackers restaurant, the well-crafted industrial design truly distinguishes this place from other co-working spaces.
